UNITED STATES WALTER F. HARLOYV, OF LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA.
LAUNDRY ASSORTING RACK.
Application filed June 1,
This invention relates to racks primarily adapted for use in laundriesin the assorting in rough dry work after the same has been removed from the drying room.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a rack of the rotary character provided with a plurality of means for per mitting the hanging of the various customers laundry at a particulanpoint on the rack and to facilitate the disposition of the various customers laundry on the rack without requiring the assorter to be constantly on the move which is now the case in the use of assorting racks gei'ierally used for this purpose.
This invention further aims to provide a rack of the foregoing character wherein the loss of articles is reduced to a minimum, which feature will in itself compensate for the cost of installing a rack of this character, which as a matter of fact would vary negligibly insomuch as the rack is extremely simple of construction, the same embodying but few parts and these so corelated as to provide a highly novel, simple, and eflicient device.
Other objects will become apparent as the nature of the invention will be better understood the same comprising the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the 'z-uzcon'l 'ianying drawings and claimed.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a rack constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a view mainly in side elevation, certain of the elements being disclosed in cross section and Figure 3 is a detail lOllglttlClillttl section taken substantially upon the line of Figure 2 and looking downwardly in the direction of the arrows.
Now having particular reference to the drawings, my novel rack constitutes the pro vision of a weighted base 5 formed at its top side with a threaded socket 6 which has threaded therein the lower end of a relatively elongated vertically extending post 7 which is circular in cross section as clearly disclosed in Figure 3. Mounted for rota tion around the post 7 at the lower end thereof is a sleeve 8 that extends upwardly to a point slightly beneath the center 1926. Serial No. 112,994.
thereof, the lower end of the sleeve having free rotation about the post 7 and upon the base 5 through reason of suitable-bearings 9. Attached to the post 7 directly above said sleeve 8 is a tapered collar 10 between which and said sleeve are other bearings 11.
Also mounted for rotation upon the post 7 in slight spaced relation with the collar 10 is a further sleeve 12 that terminates at its upper end slightly within the upper end of said post which is threaded for receiving a head 13 that is slotted at its upper end for receiving an indicating card 14.
The sleeves 8 and 12 are formed adjacent their outer ends with tapered circumferential shoulders 8' and 12 respectively that aresuitablyslotted in predetermined spaced manner for a purpose hereinafter more fully described.
The rack further constitutes the provision of a predetermined number of laundry supporting arms 15, the opposite ends of which are extended inwardly at such angles as to support the arms in an outwardly extending inclined position with respect to the post 7, it being noted from a consideration of Figure 2 that said ends of the arms are arranged within the slots of the shoulders S and 12' respectively wherein they are rigidly secured.
All of the arms are longitudinally slotted as at 16, the slots opening at the upper ends thereof to permit of the engagement of the usual laundry attached rings or pins therein. As a means for indicating the ownership of the laundry supported by the various arms 15 I provide indicating cards 17 that are slotted at their lower edge for disposition upon the upper ends of the arms as clearly disclosed in Figure 2.
As an auxiliary means for maintaining the arms in proper spaced relation the rack further constitutes the provision of a rigid circular disc 18 positioned at its center between the collar 10 and the upper sleeve 12 and being formed at its true center with an opening through which the post 7 extends, the edge of this disc being formed with spaced slots 19 within which the inner edges of the arms 15 extend.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple. and eflicient form of laundry assorting rack that is well adapt.- ed for all the purposes heretofore designated, even though I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements, it. is nevertheless to be understood that minor ehane'es may be had therein without elteet- .ing the spirit. and scope of the appended elainis.
.llaving thus described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A l. A laundry asserting raek ol the class deserihed ineludiiur, in eombinatiion, a vertieal pole, a sleeve rotatable about the lower portion ot the pole, at second sleeve rotatable about the upper portion of the pole, bearing: means spacing the sleeves apart a plurality ot arms attaeheiil to the bottom of the lower sleeve and int-lining u tiwardly and outwardly therefrom and merging into inwardly disposed extensions attached to the upper portions of the upper sleeve. said arms being provided with lOngltlltlllltlll) extending slots.
2. A laundr asserting rack oil the class deseribed ineludin in eouibiinition. a vortieal pole, a sleeve rotatable about the lowerabout the upper portion of the pole, bearing;
means spacing the sleeves apart a plurality of arms attaehed to the bottom of the lower sleeve and int-lining; upwardly and outardlv therefrom and merging into inwardly disposed extensions attached to the upper portions of: the upper sleeve said arms being provided with longitudinally extending slots, a disk having an opening in its renter for reeeiving the pole, and notehes in its edge tor receiving the arms.
El. laundry and sorting raek ot the class deseribtnl ineludingl' a base. a post threadedly mounted in the base to rise vertieally there from. a sleeve rotatably mounted on the lower portion ol' the post, a bearing: between .the sleeve and the base a second bearing);
rotatably mounted upon the post at the up per end thereof, a plurality oil? arms fixed to the lower portion of? the lower sleeve and rising;' upwardi there from and inolii'iing outwardly and provided. with longitudinally extending slots, said arms merging at their upper ends into inwardly directed extensions fixed to the upper end of the upper sleeve.
in testimony whereof: I allix my signature.
