ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Application led .Tune 11, 1928, Serial No. 115,315. Renewed March 4, 1927.
This invention relates to improvements in advertising devices.
The primary object of the invention resides in a slowly revoluble member containing reversible signs which are respectively displayed ou opposite sides of the horizontal axis of rotation of the member whereby double the amount of advertising space is provided.
Another object of the invention is to provide a revoluble member containing a plu` rality of rotatable panels on the opposite sides of which advertising indicia is adapted to be placed, means for automatically revers ing the panels on each revolution of the mem ber for respectively displaying the indicia provided on opposite sides thereof, indicia on one side of the panel heilig displayed on one side of the vertical axis of rotation of the member while the indicia on the opposite side is displayed on the opposite side of said vertical axis.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel constructionand combination of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved display apparatus.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the device.
Figure e is a detail perspective view with parts broken away in section to show the automatic releasing means.
Figures 5 and 6 are detail plan views of the opposite sides of one of the panels.
Referring more particularly to the drawn ings, the reference numeral designates my improved advertising device in its entirety and which includes a base 11 above which a revoluble member 12 is mounted in spaced brackets 13 which rise from the base.
The member 12 comprises a pair of spaced correspond in number to the outer flat surfaces of the end plates.
Each sign member comprises a pair of spaced disks 17 which lie iiat against the inner sides of the end plates 111, and which support a panel 1S containing different advertising indicia 19 and 20 on the respective opposite sides thereot for display on opposite sides of the axis of rotation of the member upon each revolution of the same. One of the longitudinal edges of each member is weighted as at 21 for a purpose to be presently explained.
For the purpose of imparting rotation to the revolubie member, l provide an electric motor 22 which is mounted on the base 11 adjacent. one end of the member and which drives a relatively large gear 23, ixed to the lower end of a vertical shaft 2&1, journalled in bearings provided in-one of the brackets 13. y carried at the top of the shaft 2st and meshes with a bevelled gear 2G carried by one of the trunnions 1t is obvious that when the motor is turned on, a relatively slow turning motion is imparted to the revoluble member 12.
Mounted on cach flat face of one of the end plates 1-1- are pivoted latch members 28, each of which comprises an arm 29 extending beyond the outer face of the plate, and a finger 30 movable into and out of openings 31 provided in the adjacent disks 17 of the sign members. The openings 31 in each disk are disposed at diametrically opposite points, so that when the ingers 30 are disposed within the openings, the sign members are locked in a position, wherein the panels 18 are disposed parallel tothe fiat surfaces of the end plates. springs 32 have `one end connected to the respective latch members while their opposite ends are iixedly connected to the end plates, and which springs serve to normally force the lingers into the openings as the same are brought inte registration therewith.
Stationarily mounted with respect to the revoluble member are trip arms 33 and 34 respectively mounted on opposite sides of the vertical axis of rotation of said member, and each arm is disposed at a point so as to actuate the latch members just prior to the movement of the sign members into vertical alignment with the axis of rotation of the A. relatively small bevelled gear 25 isV Contractile 9 rerolnble member. The 'free ends ot the arme extend into the path ot movement o t the arms 29 ot' the latch members to be engaged thereby tor releaeing the tingers BO trom the openings 31.
ln the operation ot the sign reversing means, we Shall presmne that the reyolnble member is rotated in the direction Shown by the arrows in Figures l and, i2 ol the drawinge. The panels on the right eide ot the vertical abrirv in Figure '12 are held by the latch members with the Weighted edgg'ee tlt above the horizontal axis ot their pivotal connectionj eo that the indicia tti is displayed as the respective panel@ more to a position at approximately ""1 the orighted edge tends to npeet the eign niembera. no that an: the latch meinbere` respectively engage the trip 33, the fingere tit) are ret `acted Yfrom the openings 3l. whereupon the weight 2l will automatically swing the aigu men'iber a bal t revolution, so as; to bring' the other dia metrically opposed opening` 3l into iegrist er with the tinp'er, at which time the latch meinber will hare moved pant the trip Ii where upon the Spring;` 3:2 will 'torce the linger into the registering` opening and loch the aigrn in a reversed position. its the Sian elemente more over to the opposite or lett side ol` the axis ot rotation ot aaid reroluble member. the lindicia 2O en the reverse side o t the panel displayed, at which time the weighted erlegen are again on a plane above the horizontal axis oil. the sign members. litowever. when the latch members reepectively more into engagement with the trip til. the tinge e are again ret acted, to allow the eign members` to airing to a reverse po ition to again display the indicia i9 on the right Side ot the rertieal atiev ot the revoluble member.
Uthough the device ie Shown aa being relatively openT it will be appreciated that the saine may be enclosed in a casing' haring; opposed Windows 'tor Adieplayine' the siena as they are brought into consta-alive regis t ation therewith.
iilhile l have deecribed 7what l deem to be the moet deeirable enibodinient ot my invention, itin obvious that many ot' the details may be farietr without in any way departinga trom the spirit ot my invention. and l: there- 'tore do not limit myself to the exact detaile ol construction herein Set Alorth nor to anythinig lees than the Whole o'l my intention limited only by the appended el aims.
