IMPROVEMENT IN THlLL-LOOPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,522, dated April 27, 1875 application filed February 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, FRANK S. BERRY and GEORGE F. ALEXANDER, of New Sharon, in the county of Franklin and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Thill-Loop, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a side View of our improved thillloop, partly in section to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a detail section of the upper part of the same, the leather covering bein g removed. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line 00 00, Fig. 1.

Our invention has for its object to furnish an improved thill-loop for single harness for supporting the thills, which shall be so constructed as not to wear the thills or their patentleather covering, when covered. and which shall be strong, durable, and always in its proper shape.
The invention consists in the thill-loop formed of the hard rubber or metal body or lining, provided with the flanges and keeper, the metal plate, the buckle, and the coveringstrap, substantially as herein shown and described.
A is the body or lining of the loop, which is made of hard rubber or metal, and is somewhat pear-shaped. The inner side of the lining A is rounded off, and upon the edges of its outer side are formed flanges c of a height about equal to the thickness of the leather strap or cover B, that passes around it.
The ends of the strap or cover B are sewed or riveted together at the lower end of the loop A, and one of said ends is made longer than the other, to receive the buckle of the belly-band. In the upper end of the body or lining A is formed a notch to receive the bar of the buckle O, that is buckled to the saddlestrap of the harness. The buckle O is kept in place by the metal strap or plate D, which is so formed as to fit upon the upper end of the loop A, has a hole formed through its center for the passage of the buckle-tongue, and is riveted to the lining 'A. The strap B passes over the plate D, entirely concealing it, as shown in Fig. 1. This method ofsccuring the buckle to the tug allows the renewal of the strap with ease, convenience, and little expense. Upon the outer side of the loop A is formed a keeper, a through which the strap B passes, and which is designed to receive the end of the saddle-strap after it has been passed through the buckle (l.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with body A, strap B, and buckle O, of the perforated plate D, securing buckle to body, and itself covered by strap, substantially as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
