Application filed Au ust 16, 1926. Serial no. 129,376.
My invention relates to toilet paper roll holders, especially designed for supporting rolls of toilet paper, and, it is a distinct and practical improvement to overcome certain practical objections to, and defects in,-the
present stylesot toilet paper roll holders' The object of my present invention is the provision of a simple style of holder including bearing means that can be readily and quickly raised, or elevated by the ends of a roll of toilet paper when applying a roll? to the holder, or when removil'ig the roll therefrom and which bearing means will,
when elevated to a predetermined position,
fall by gravity and partially enter the ends of the tubular core upon which the paper is wound as the roll is gradually lowered to its normal position, said bearing means acting as pintles for the roll of paper to be revolved upon as the paper is withdrawn from the roll. v
A further object of the invention is the provision of spherical bearings retained in housings having inclined planes which will permit the bearings to partly protrude through slotted openings in the walls thereof when in their normal or lowermost positions in the housings and to permit their complete withdrawal into the upper ends of the housing when positioning a paper roll in the holder.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a toilet paper roll holder which possesses advantages in points of simplicity and efliciency, and, at the same time proves itself comparatively inexpensive in cost of manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, whereln like characters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views:
Fig. 1, is a top plan view of a paper holder embodying .the features of my invention.
Fig. 2, ma side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3, is a vertical sectional view of the holder taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4, is a detail showing the inverted V- shaped opening in one of the arm extensions.
Fig. 5, is a detail showing one of the spherical hearings in its lowermost position in full lines and'in mctallic strip tensions 6 and 7.
its uppermost position'in dotted lines. Y v In carrying out the aim of my present invention, I employ a yoke-shaped bracket member formed from a single piece of flat stock and said brzur-ket member includes an intermediate base member 1 for attachment to a wall, 2 by means of fastening devices 3, a pair of forwardly directed arm portions 4 and'5 which are a continuation with the ends of the-intermediate portion 1 and the downwardly directed arm ex-. Thearm extensions 6 and 7 are continuations with the forward ends of the arm portions 4 and 5 and are formed by bending the arms of the yoke shaped member at a fortyfive degree angle, as at 8.
The lower end portions of the downwardly directed arm extensions 6 and 7 are each provided .with an inverted V-shapcd slotted opening 9.
A housing member 10 is secured to the outer face of each downwardly directed arm extension 6 and 7 by means of a'pair of bent fastening lips 11 which pass through 0 eniugs 12 in the arm extensions 6 and 7 Itach housing member 10 is provided with an upwithin the upper ends of the housing members 10 due to their climbing up the inclined planes 13 caused by the insertion of a roll of paper upwardly between the the arm extensions 6 and 7.
When the tubular core 15 of a roll of toilet paper 16 has reached an elevation to register with the spherical bearing 14 in their uppermost position, the operator gradually low-- ers the roll and the spherical bearings 14 will gradually slide down the inclined planes 13 and insert themselves in the ends of the tubular core as the bearings 14 pass through the inverted V-shaped openings of the downwardly directed arm extensions 6 and 7 in their downward movement.
It will be here observed that the spherical bearings 14 provide means for the paper roll to revolve upon when withdrawing paper from the roll.
The many advantages of the herein-described invention will readily suggest themselves to'those skilled in the art to which it appertains.
I do not wish to be understood as having limited myself to the exact details of construction shown and described, but desire to have it understood that the invention I have shown in the drawings is merely illustrative. as it is manifest that various minor changes may be made 111 the exact construction and particular arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, hence I reserve the right to make any such changes. or modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims when fairly construed.
What I claim is:
1. A roll paper holder comprising a yoke shaped element including an intermediate housing partly protruding the slotted openings when in their lowermost positions and upon which a paper roll is revolnbly supported.
2. A roll paper holder comprising a bracket member having angularly shaped arms )rovided with opposed vertically disposed inverted V-shaped slots therein and bearing means movahly supported by said arms and projecting partly through said slots toward each other upon which a roll of paper is revoluhly supported.
