UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN H. BAUSH, OF HOLYOKE, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENTIN HITCHING DEVICES FOR STRAPS.
Spec'fication forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,518, dated April 27, 1875; application filed March 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN H. BAUSH, of Holyoke, Hampden county, Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hitching-Straps, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to straps for hitching horses; and consists in a metallic slide or look, through which the strap passes, and in which it is confined, the lock being adjusted to any desired position on the strap.
Figure 1 is a view of the lock applied to a strap according to my invention; and Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. 1, taken on the line a: ac.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the hitching-strap. B is a snap-fastening, attached to the strap and the lock. 0 is the lock or adjustable slide on the hitching-strap. This slide is made with a hub, D, and a fastening-screw, E, which works through the hub D; also, a mortise, F, through which the strap passes. G is a plate in the mortise, which receives the end of a set-screw, E, to prevent injury to the strap. The lock or slide 0 is also made with a plate, H, in which is an orifice, I, for receiving the snap-fastening B. The fastening-strap is preferably made in a single piece, and the end J may be passed around the horses neck, and hitched to the lock, as seen in the drawing; or it may be attached to a hitching-post, when it is reversed, the slide or look being slipped and fastened as may be required. The other end of the strap may have a snap-hook to attach to a ring on the bridle, or to a hitching-post, as may be desired.
It will be seen that the lock maybe slipped onto the strap to any desired position to suit either the horses neck or a hitching-post, as may be desired.
The adjustable slide or look is a very great convenience to those who are driving and handling horses.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The sliding lock 0, consisting of hub D,
screw E, mortise F, plate G, and perforated extension H, the whole being adapted to be used with strap A and snap B, in the manner
