Description
1 2 Apnl 9 7 A. J. REEDY STOVE DOOR CONSTRUCTION Filed April 25, 1926 lNlEN/OR BY .egAlfred 1% 2 a ATTORNEI 'J Patented Apr. 19, 19227.
entree sir'rss ALFRED J. R-EEDY, G
na'r'rLn CREEK, Mrcnman, assrenon re a. ranr, or BATTLE n. s'rovn col.
izioirrean.
srovnnoon oonsrnoo'rronf Application filed April 23, 1925. Serial No. 104,071.
The n'iain object of this invention is to provide an improved stove door structure which may be provided with an enamel or like finish which protected so that it is not likely to be chipped or broken as a result of closing or slamming the door to insure against breaking of enamel or peeling of nickel when grinding the door to fit against its casing or front.
Object-s pertaining to details and econo mies of my invention will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A. structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. l is a fragmentary front perspective view of a gas range embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary section on a line rorresponding to line 22'of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentarysection of the door frame.
In the accompanying drawing 1 illustrate only such parts of a stove structure as are deemed necessary to illustrate an embodiment or adaptation of my improvements.
1 represents an oven, 2 a broiling chamber below the oven, and 3 the open cooking top at the side of the oven. The oven is provided with adoor frame l. The doors are designated generally by the numerals 5 and 6 and a description of one will suifice.
These doors are mounted to close against the door casing. My improved door as il lustrated comprises a rectangular cast iron frame 7 which is of inwardly curved cross section as shown in Fig. 2 providing an inwardly facing outer edge 8 adapted to close against the face 9 of the door casing. The door panel 10 and the lining 11 are mounted in this frame in any suitable manner.
The frame is provided with a finish, preferably enamel, indicated at 12 and has a rabbet-like recess 13 extending around the same, thereby providing a bumper portion 1 of width than the thickness of the frame. The enamel, nickel or other suitable finish overlaps the shoulder of the rabbet but does not extend to the inner edge of the door frame. This spacing of the finished surface from the door casing engaging face protects the finish from blows such as would result from the slamming of the door, which in the event of the noor being finished with enamel or nickel extending to the edge of the door. is quite likely to crack and chip the enamel or peel the nickel. It also provides a projecting portion which may be ground necessary to cause the same to properly fit or close against the casing'without danger of injuring the enamel or peeling the nickel.
ll'ly improvement is of very substantial advantage from the manufacturers standpoint in that itenables the enameling of the frame and completing of the doors prior to the grinding necessary to cause the same to prop erly fit or close, and also protects the enamel or other finish, stated, from injury occasioned by slamming of the doors.
'llly improvement is capable of embodiment in a great variety of forms or adaptations but it is believed that it is unnecessary to illustrate the same, and that this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody'or adapt my improvements as may be desired.
Having thus describedmy invention what 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A structure of the class described com prising a door casing, and a door mounted to close against said casing and comprising a frame having an enameled outer surface, the frame being curved in cross section providing an inwardly facing outer edge closing against said casing, the frame being rabbeted on the outside at the edge thereof, the
enamel extending over the inwardly facing shoulder provided by the rabbet.
2. A structure of the class described comprising a door casing, and a door mounted to close against said using and comprising a frame having an inwardly facing outer edge rabbeted on the outside thereof to provide an inwardly facing frame engaging casing offset from the external surface of the frame. 7
3. A structure of the class described comprising a door. casing, and a door mounted to close against said casing a frame curved in cross section providing an inwardly facing outer edge closing againstsaid casing, the frame being rabbeted on the outside at the edge thereof, the frame surface finish extending into the rabbet.
and comprising i 4:. An enameled stove door unit having an inwardly facing outer edge with a rabbet like recess at the outer side thereof, the enamel extending into the recess hut terminat- 5 ing short of the face of the edge.
5. A stove door unit having an inwardly facing outer edge with a rabbet-like recess ALFRED J. REEDY.
