The foot, 34, is of sucli length that after the screw, 36a, has been tightened as above, a screw, 34a, inserted in the opening for one of the bolts, 14, will draw it down into contact with the boss on the iange, 12, surrounding said opening and thereby draw the curved side, 27, 'of the casing, A, against the wall, 27.
The bolt, 34a, prevents any lateral movement of the casing on one side, the boss, 26, and bolt, 36a, on the other. The casing is thus held securely against vibration relative to ythe cylinder block, and yet may be applied or removed in a moments time. Thus the pump forms 'a rigid part of the engine when connected thereto.
The pump has an operating shaft, 37, which extends Jorwardly through aY packing gland, 38, to a position substantially Hush with the rear tace of the fan drive pulley, 39. yThe shaft is so positioned, as will be noted from an inspection of Figs. 2 and 3, that it may be either driven from a gear, 40, secured to the. rear face of the pulley, 39, and meshing with the gear, 41, which it carries, or by the ordinary an belt, 42, engaging tlie'left side of a pulley, 43whichv it is adapted to also receive instead ot the gear, 41. y rIhe ratio .between the diameters of the pulleys, 43 and 39, is the same as the ratio between the pitch diameters of the gears, 41 and 40, respectively. I find that with the pump positioned as described, and the pulley, 43, of such diameter as just mentioned, the said pulley will intersect the normal path ot the belt, 42, to such an extent as to gain sufficient traction therefrom for the proper driving of the pump.
The intake pipe, 44, is connected by a pack nut, 45, to the nipple, 30, and by means of an elbow, 46, to the ordinary drain plug, 16, in the flywheel housing, 15. The plug is tapped and threaded to receive the elbow as shown in Fig. 5. vAn inverted cupshaped screen 17, is received in the opening in the plug above the elbow, 46, and strains the oil of impurities.
A discharge pipe, 47, is connected by means of a pack nut, 48, to one arm of the T connection, 31, and by means of a pack nut, 49, to a nipple, 50, which is threaded into a boss on the cover, 21, which has an opening leading to the crank case interior. (See Fig. 3.) y
yDue to the fact that the oil discharge rIhe depression, 36,
opening is unobstructed and ot rather large bore, it is necessary to provide a regulating device for building up the pressure in the discharge connection, 31, in order that the gauge, 5l, which is connected to the T, 31, by means of a tube, 52, may successfully indicate whether or ,not the pump is operating. For this purpose an opening is simply bored in the discharge arm of the connection, 31, and threaded to receive a needle valve,53, which serves to diminish or increase the cross-sectional area of the channel through the discharge arm of the connection, 31. y
The gauge, 5l, may be conveniently located on the dash of the car, and is merely indicated in Fig. 2 to show its use,themount ing forming no-partoi. the'invention.
My invention solves the problem oi" mounting an oil pump on theFord engine with a minimum of trouble and expense', and is so arranged, relative to the engine,
that the problem of driving it is very sim ply and eectively solved. l,
Some changes maybe made in the construction and arrangementA of thev parts of my invention without departing fromr the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and
it is my intention to cover by my claims any modied forms of structure or use of mechanical I claim as my invention: vl. In combination with'an automoble engine having a cylinder block, a 'crank case having` an opening to receive al forward'l crank case bolt for securing said blockand crank case together, a cylinderwront cover having an opening adapted to receive an intermediate right cap screw for securing said cylinder cover to the cylinder block, the cylinder'block'having a 'time gear shell equivalentsl whichl may be reasonably included in their scope.

In combination with van automobile en-lgine having a cylinder block, a crank case having an openingA to receive a forward crank case bolt for securing said block and crank case together,` a cylinder front cover having ,anopening adapted tofreceivek an intermediate right capy screwffor securingr` `yincluding substantially vertical'and downwardly and outwardly inclined portions; an oil pump disposed in" engagement with said portions, means securing the pumpin such engagement, said means includinga screw engaging the pump through said-Cover opening, and means for-securing thefree side of the pump to the block.
