BOILER CLEANER.

The invention relates to boiler cleaners of that type particularly designed for use in connection with marine boilers where the cleaning is eii ected by reciprocatory blowers within the smoke box having ets directed against the fines. Heretofore, constructions of this type have been used in which the reciprocatory blower tubes are supplied with steam from a longitudinally movable header. This header in turn receives its steam from a stationary supply conduit and to permit of the movement, there is provided.

E and B are the smoke boxes or breeching for conducting the products of combus-' tion to the stack. 0 is a header extending transversely through each smoke-box and preferably continuously through the entire series. D are blower pipes connected with the header C and arranged in the various compartments of the smoke-box so as to en tend parallel to the flue plate. The arrangement is such that when the header C is reciprocated longitudinally, the various blower tubes will traverse the series of tubes in their respective compartments directing jets of steam successively against the fines.
In place of the swivel jointed supply connection which has heretofore been used for furnishing steam to the header, I arrange either within or without the smoke-box parallel to the header a stationary header E. F are pipes telescopically engaging the header E at opposite ends thereof and laterally connected with the movable header C. As
all these pipes are parallel to each other, it
is obvious that the reciprocation of the header G will be permitted while maintaining the telescopic connection between the stationary header E and pipes F. Also due to the fact that the pipes F at opposite ends of the stationary header are of equal crosssectional area, the pressure of steam will be balanced. Thus, after the steam is supplied for the stationary header E, it will be continuously conducted to themovable header C and the reciprocatory movement of the latter will be permitted without resistance from the steam.
For reciprocating the cleaners I preferably provide mechanism for the whole battery of boilers. 'Thisconsists of a chain or other actuating connection G which is connected by reason of the'plugs K to the 0pposite ends of the continuous header G and after passing over shoes or pulleys H is centrally connected with an actuating mechanism I. It is, of course, understood that the header is plugged or closed, as indicated at K, so as to avoid discharge of steam therethrough.
What/I claim as my invention is:
1. In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a longitudinally reciprocatory header, of a stationary header arranged parallel thereto and connected with a source of supply of steam, and a pair of conduits telescopically engaging said stationary header at opposite ends thereof. and laterally connected to said reciprocatory header, thereby forming a balanced connection.
2. In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a reciprocatory header, of a stationary header extending in the direction of reciprocation of the first mentioned header, anda pair of conduits oppositely telescopically engaging said stationary header and respectively connecting with the end portions of the reciprocatory header to establish a balanced fluid supply thereto in all positions of reciprocation'thereof. v V
