MEANS FOR IN-VERTING PACKAGES.
Application filed bc'tober 26, 1926. semi no. 144,363.
The invention has relation to a machine or device for inverting packages in pivotal fashion for the purpose of filling baskets or containers withth'e contents of said packages, and has for an object to provide a means for readily inverting the trays full of fruit without lifting the same to discharge the contents thereof into containers to be sent to the market.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating an embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a side view of the invention with one of the covers raised in dotted lines; Figure 2 is an end view of the same, the adjusted position of parts being shown in dotted lines; and Figure 3 is a detail plan view of the tray located in the carrier, the latter having its ends in section.
In these drawings the numeral 1 designates a quadrangular frame or carrier pivoted at its ends at 2 in standards 3 having a base 4; and a cross brace 5, the latter being connected at 6 to the bench or packing table 7.
The pivoted carrier has the upper side or cover 8 thereof hinged at one end at 9 and at its other end has a spring latch connection 10 with the adjacent end 11 of said carrier, the latter having its bottom 12 hinged atone end at 13 and at its other end having a spring latch connection 14 with said end 11.
The pivoted carrier is open at its opposite sides one of which faces the packing table, and its bottom 12 is on a level with the packing table 7. In the use of the invention the tray 15 with paper or other liner full of fruit and located upon the packing table is covered with the container or basket 16 and the whole is slid from the packing table to the pivoted carrier, as
" shown in Figures 1 and 2, until said tray engages opposite stops 16 of said carrier when it will be centered with relation thereto. The hinged top 8 is then closed down upon the bottom of the inverted container the top of which is resting upon the bottom of the pivoted carrier, and latched in position to hold the tray and paper liner full of fruit and the container thereover securely in place within the pivoted carrier.
The pivoted carrier is now rotated through an arc of 180 degrees, or'hal'f way around, to bring the tray-l5 'alicl'paper liner bottom side up and the container or basket 16 right side up, the device being under manual control so that the pivoted carrier is stopped manually when its top, which has now become its bottom, is level with the packing table.
The hinged bottom 12 of the pivoted carrier, which has now become the top thereof, is now opened to release the tray and the basket or container, and the whole is slid back again to the packing table and the tray removed, the fruit remaining in the basket.
The stub shafts 2 whereon the carrier 1 is pivoted may be adjustable for length for the purpose of increasing friction to provide a braking means against too easy turning or rotation of said frame, said stub shafts rotating upon either roller or ball bearings. The standards 3 may be adjustable for height to adapt it to any height of packing t-a e.
The invention may be made of either wood or metal and can be used with the Hyatt or other tub pack.
Due to the fact that the pivoted carrier has twin upper and lower halves which are reversible in the rotation of the carrier, and due to upper and lower sets of opposite stops 16, the invention is capable of use to invert successive trays and paper liners full of fruit or the like and discharge the same into successive containers without first rea storing the pivoted carrier to first position.
I claim:
1. Means for inverting packages, including a pivoted carrier having twin upper and lower halves reversible in the rotation of the carrier;
2. Means for inverting packages including a pivoted carrier having twin upper and lower halves reversible in the rotation of the carrier, the top and the bottom of said carrier having each opposite stops for centering a tray and paper liner.
8. Means for inverting packages, including a pivoted carrier having twin upper and lower halves reversible in the rotation of the carrier, said carrier being open at opposite sides and having a top and a bottom, each hinged at one end, and at its opposite end having a releasable connection with the carrier.

4:. Means for inverting packages, including a packing table, standards having a brace connection with said table, a quadrangular carrier open at the sides and pivoted to said standards and having twin upper and lower halves reversible in the rotation of the carrier.
5. Means for inverting packages including a pivoted carrier having twin upper and lower halves reversible in the rotation of the carrier, said carrier being open at opposite sides and having a top and a bottom each hinged at one end and at its opposite end having a releasable connection with said carrier the top and the bottom of said carrier having each opposite stops for center ing a. tray and paper liner.
6. Means for inverting packages, including a packing table, standards having a brace connection with said table, a quadrangular carrier open at the sides and pivoted to said standards and having twin upper and lower halves reversible in the rotation of the carrier, the carrier having a top and a bottom each hinged at one end and at its opposite end having a releasable connection with the carrier, said bottom being level with the packing table.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature.
