Description

R. D. FARB..
Stove-Pipe Shelf.
N0.162,365 PaiemedAprilznam.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
ROYAL D. FARB, OF EAS'I MIDDLEBURY., VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE SHELVES.
Speefiieation forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,365, dated April 20, 1875; applicafion filed September 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, R. D. FARR, of East Middlebury, in the county of Addison and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipe-Shelf Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following to be a full, clear, and exa-ot desori ption thereof, reference being had to the aoeompanying drawings, and to the letters of referenee marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a stove-pipe shelf, and the means for fastening the same To the stove-pipe, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others, skilled in the artto which my invention appertains to make and use the saine, I will now proceed to describe its Construction and opera-tion, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a bottom view, of my stove-pipe shelf, showing the mode of fastening. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal seetion of the saine through the line x m, Fig. 1.
A represents a portion of a stove-pipe to which my shelf is to be fastened. sents the shelf', constructed in any suitable form, and made preferably open, though I have shown a solid shelf in the drawing. The shelf B is, on one side, provided with an opening, the inner end 0f which is semieiroular to lit around the stove-pipe. In the center, and
at each end of the semieircnlar part, is a downward-projecting lug, a, to bear against B reprethe stove-pipe A and prevent the shelf from tilting. In the shelf B are two holes, b b, aeross which, on the under side, is fasteneda rod, d. On this rod, in the holes or slots b, isv
hinged a bail, O, which passes around the stove-pipe and holds the shelf firmly in posi-l tion thereon.
The shelf can easily be raised, as on a hinge, which loosens the bail, and then the shelf can be raised or lowered on the pipe, as desired, and fastened by letting it down in a horizontal position again, and when down it is held firmly in this position b-y the bail O and lugs a a.
On the under side of the shelf, at the outer edge, is a series of loops, guides,or staples, i t', for the insertion of rods or arms to form a clothes-drier.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I elairn as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The shelf B, provided with holes b b, in combination with rod d, and bail C, all as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a stove-pipe shelf, the shelf B, provided with lugs ce a, and holes b b, bail O, and rod d, all arranged as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROYAL I). FARB.
