' HEATER.
v Application filed. February 16, was- Serial.1 T o..88,5fi3;
provide a heater equipped with means for readily regulating the draft.
The invention also comprehends a novel form of fuel tank specially designed for use in combination with the heater.
With the above and other objects in view this" invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification, and
illustrated in the accompanying drawings,
wherein s Figure 1 shows a vertical sectional view.
Figure 2 shows a cross sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 shows a plan view of the heater,
. and
Figure 4 shows a side elevation of the heater, shown in combination with the fuel tank.
Referring now'more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures the numeral 1 designates the heater jacket, which has the bottom 2, lined with asbestos 3, and which also has the top 4: preferably bolted to the body of the jacket.
' The jacket is preferably formed of-cast metal.
"ing the supporting legs 6 which rest on the lining 3 and are bolted to the bottom of the jacketby the bolts 7. This bowl has a tralv upstanding conical shaped nozzle 8,
' which has an axial fuel passageway 9 there? through, and a supply pipe 10 leads from the fuel tank 11 and has its discharge end threaded through the bottom of the jacket and up into said nozzle 8.
The flow of fuel through this line to the nozzle may be controlled through the needle valve 12. with which the line is equipped, and the fuel line also has a relief cock 13- to relieve the line of any air that may become entrapped therein.
The cover 1 has a central depending draft Within the jacket there isa bowl 5, havcenfine 15-, WhOSQ upper end is. openand} whose lower end is contracted and. surrounds the upper end, of the flue there is. err-transverse anchor; bar 16. There is a. disc l ikeaflame upper end of the nozzle'8. Fastenedito. the
spreader 17 spaced above the nozzle- This flame spreader is attachedto t-he.lowersend of the. rod 18 whose upper end'isthreaded through the bar 16; and has a. knurledhand grip by means of' whichth e rod' 18" may be,
turned and the spreader 17 thus adjusted toward and from the nozzle. vA wing nut 19 is threaded on the rod 18 above the. bar 16 by means of which the rod may be locked in any desired position.
The flame spreader 17 requires different ferent grades of fuel used. The jacket has an opening in front of the bowl 5 which may be opened and closed by adjustments relative to the nozzle 8 for dif the door 21 thus providing for access to the J nozzle for lighting purposes and this door has the usual draft damper 22.
lVhen the fuel is burning and the damper 22 closed the draft will all be down through the flue 15. The blaze will strike the spreader 17 and be spread thereby and will be carried down around the lower end of the flue and will pass up around it into the jacket chamber 23. The draft through the flue 15 may be controlled, to a large degree through the damper 22. By opening this damper the draft through the flue 15 may be decreased and vice versa. j
The fumes will pass out through the usual flue pipe 24 leading out from the upper part of the jacket.
The fuel tank is fastened to a flat wall 'plate 25, formingthe back side thereof and which has the ears 26, 26, by means of which the tank may be suspended.
The"
water and sediment will settle to. the-bottom to permit the feeding of the fuel therefrom,-
through the pipe '10.
What I claim is: J 1. A heater including a jacket, an up- 2 I c v I 1,623,415
standingfnozzle in the bottom thereof, a flue depending from the top of the jacket whose ends are open and whose lower end is disposed around said nozzle, a transverse anchor bar across the upper end or said flue, a flame spreader 1n the flue above said nozzle and a rod adjustably connected to said bar and to the lower end ofwhich said spreader is at,
tached.
2. A heater including a jacket, a bowl in the bottom thereof having an upstanding nozzle, means for supplying fuel to said nozzle, a'flue depending from the top of the jacket whose ends are open and whose lower end surrounds said'nozzle, an anchor bar across said flue,-a rod adjustably connected with said bar, a flamespreader in the flue ,attached to saidrod, said jacket having an opening infront of the nozzle and a door for closing said opening. V v
3. A heater lncluding a jacket, a bowl in the bottom thereof having an upstanding and adjustably connected to said bar, said jacket having an opening, a, door for closing said opening a draft controlling damper car- I ried 'by said door, and a flue pipe leading out from the upper part of the jacket.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
THOMAS H. KENNEDY.
