Pivotally mounted adjacent to the front side of the hopper 37 is .a shaft 7 7, the inner end of which is provided with a crank wheel 78 having a crank pin 79 designed tofcarry a connecting rod 80, the lower end of which is pivotally connectedto upwardly extending Y lugs 81 from the free end of the packer 76. Thus it will be seen that if the shaft 77 is rotated, the free end of the packer will ybe elevated and lowered, which will cause the pugg-ed material to be packed ahead of the plow, so as toform a lsort of stiff column of clay, which may be easily and readily slid upwardly andfoutwardly over the face ofthe plow into the hopper 36, which lwould be almost `impossible'if the materialwere loose at the time it engagedlthe plow.

The inner. end of eachof'the'speed reducing gear members 30 is provided with an annular contact ring 84, which is insulated from the lcasing of the speed reducer, and designed to form one terminal of an electric circuit. The annular member 84 is provided with a segment 85 mounted on Vone end of a slidable shaft 86, so arranged that as the said shaft is moved longitudinally, the

cuit may be established lthrough the con-l ductors A98 and the cutting wires 94,v and the opposite one of the members 98 being grounded to the spider 92,`which in turn is groundedto the conductor 102. l It will be seen that if any one of the wires94should become broken, then the circuit maintained in the conductors 101v and 102 will bey tors 105, 103 andw108, `together withl the switches 104 and 107, provide means whereby an electric' current may be vsupplied from any suitable power plant for the operation of the motors' and' electric' mechanism of my improved device.

for said water supply, an electric motor forv f driving said pugging mechanism, an electric circuit for supplying current to said motors, said circuit including an electric magnet, means controlled by the variation of the current and said electromagnet for operating said valve, said parts being so adjusted and arranged that any variation in the current load for said motor required to operate the pugging mechanism will open and close said valve in a proper amount so that the mixture in the pan will be of uniform consistency.

A movable pugging pan, a shaft arranged above and transversely with the movement of said pan, al series of blunger knives for said shaft arranged in alternate and opposite directions and in a common plane, means for rotating said shaft, means for throwing the last said means into and out of operation, they last said means including means `whereby the shaft will be stopped with the blunger knives resting in a plane substantially parallel to'said pan.
