UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LORENZO D. STAMPS, OF GALVESTON, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN AUTOMATIC FANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,320, dated April 20, 1875 application filed February 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that I,LORENZO D. STAMPS, of Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Table-Fan, of which the following is a specification 1n the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side view of my improved table-fan as applied to the ceiling, and Fig. 2 a vertical transverse section of the same on the line 0 0 on Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents the bracketshaped frame, which is applied to the ceiling by suitable screws or otherwise, and made light and neatin appearance. Between the brackets of frame A is placed in laterally-connecting shafts the driving mechanism, which consists ofstrong steel spring B, wound upon shaft to, and applied with its outer end to a cogw iaulit-vl (6], d. of shait a, and eel b (1, allow the winding-up of the spring B, whose power is transmitted, by intermeshing gear-wheels and pinions b N, &c.,' to the crank-shaft e, and then, by cranks f, rods 9, and arms h, to rook-shaft z'.
Rock-shaft t connects by rod 1 with the fanshaft m, which is pivoted and suspended from a bracket, m, of the ceiling, and made, together with fan D, vertically adj ustable, to correspond to different heights of the rooms.
Any number of fans may be set in motion by the driving mechanism, provided the steel spring is made strong enough.
The fans may be made of any suitable material and size.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In an automatic fan, the combination of the cranks f, links g, arms h, rock-shaft and crank "i, vertically-adjustable rod Z, fan-shaft m, and vertically-adjustable fan D, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
LORENZO DAN STAMPS.
