PLATE.
Application filed May 24, 1926. Serial No. 111,454.
The object of the invention is to provide a shield or guard plate adapted for attachment in the corner of a room at the trihedral angle defined by the side walls and the floor, thereby excluding the accumulation of dust ordinaril found in such corners; and to provide a plate designed to straddle the base shoe with the outer surface of which-it lies in close contact as well as in contact with the I surface of the wall and the floor.
With this object -in view, the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing portions of the walls andfloor of a room, with the invention disposed in operative position.
Figure 2 is an enlarged plan view of the plate.
Figure 3 is a central longitudinal sectional View on the plane indicated by the line 33 of Figure 1.
WVhen applied, the plate 10 is disposed in a position inclined from the perpendicular with the lower edge 11 in contact with the floor 12 andin spanning relation with the lower edges of the base shoes 14 which are of 80 the-conventional quarter-round form. The
side edges of the plate, as indicated at 15,
are out in arcuate form to conform to the outer contour of the base shoes 14 and the upper edges 16 are arranged on converging lines to lie in contact with the 'side walls 17, the peak or apex 18 of the plate lying in the junction line between the side walls 17 The plate thu's acts as a medium to comletely'exclude dust from the corners defined y the side walls ahd floor and whatever m dust accumulates in the corners of a room is outside of the exteriorsurface of the plate and may therefore be readily brushed up.
The provision of arcuate edges 15 on the plate makes for its ready attachment in position where the conventional quarter-round base shoes are employed and these arcuate edges, together with the inclined edges 16 and the bottom edge 1.1, make for tight contact between the edges of the plate, the wall 5 surface, the floor and the base shoes.
The means for securing the plate in position consists of a fastener, such as a nail or screw 19, inserted through a perforation 20 disposed centrally inthe plate.
The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:
1. A corner guard plate whose surface is plane and of general arrow head shape, the head'of the arrow comprising converging straight lines meeting at an apex, the edge opposite the head being a straight line, and the connecting edges being curved lines, the straight edges forming contacts with the floor and wall plane surfaces of a corner of a room or compartment, and the curved edges forming contacts with the rounded base shoes situated at the meeting lines of the floor and walls.
2. The plate set forth with a nail hole in substantially its center for the reception of a nail for attachment to 1 the floor or wall.
In testimony whereof he affixes his signature. t 1
LAWRENCE C. MACDONALD.
