WELLIAM H. GOSCH, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE NOLDE AND HORST COMPANY, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYL- VANIA.
REVISABLE SAIIEEIJE FOLDER.
My invention relates to commercial sample folders; and it consists particularly in the improved construction hereinafter fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and the novel features of which are clearly defined in the subjoined claim, whereby provision is made for revisably displaying textile articles and various materials employed in the production thereof, upon sainple-c lisplay leaves and a. detachable envelope therefor.
if 1 is an interior plan view of an opened dev'ce embodying my invention; a single swatch-card leaf being shown folded down upon the inner face of one of the covers.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View on the line 2-E2 of Fig. l, but showing the leaf set at right angles to the covers.
3 is a partial exterior view of the article-displaying cover por ion, showing the attached exterior index-card; and Fig. iis a separate view of one of the swatchdisplay cards which are removably secured to the removable leaf.
The purpose of the complete invention is to provide for conveniently and revisably displaying in a single folder, first a sample of a textile article such as stockings; second samples or swatches of different materials in which such product may be furnished; and third the index numbers or characters by which any determined materials may be designated.
The device comprises an envelope made up of two stifl'ly constructed cover portions, (1, and Z) respectively, which are united by a flexible hinge connection 0, and each of 'which provided with an inner facing ma terial a, l), having a portion or portions thereof left detached from the backing material so as to form tongue-receiving pockets at the hinged edges thereof; these pockets being staggerdly arranged in the adjacent edges, with a single intermediate pocket 6 in cover 2), and end pockets a a in the other cover a, as indicated: These pocl'ets provide for removably connecting the swatch-card leaf d to the covers, by means of extending hinge-tongues d, (5 d formed on the edges of the latter and reversably bendable to engage the respective cover pockets.
The cover a is provided, as shown, first with means for removably attaching a textile article to the inner face thereof, as for instance a stocking 10; and second with means for removably securing to the exterior face thereof an index card 11 designating. the particular line of goods which are displayed in the folder. The article-attaching means indicated is merely a. snap fitSllQIb ing a one member of which is fixed to the sample article so that the latter may be conveniently secured for inspection and handling. The attaching means for the exterior index card 11 comprises, as indicated, a metal card-holder frame j which has engaging prongs f secured to a locking slide 7" on the inside of the cover, thus permitting changing of the index card to correspond with any changes made in the line of goods displayed in the folder. The closed-together covers a and b are held by an overlapping extension a in ordinary manner as indicated.
The swatch-card leaf d is made up of a backing sheet upon which an inner facing sheet is pasted so as to leave pocketforming' portions, to which access is provided by slotted apertures adapted to engage edge portions of separate swatch cards 6 such as are shown in Fig. 4:.
Each of these cards 6 as illustrated, has secured thereto two swatches or samples of material employed in making different styles of the sample article'lO previously referred to; one swatch as indicated at 10 showing for instance the leg design of a stocking nd the other as indicated at 10 the foot n'iaterial; while a semi-detached corner portion 6 thereof bears an index character or characters (5C shown) by which said swatches may be designated. This corner portion a of each card, and edge portions as e and 6 thereof, are adapted respectively to be passed through leaf apertures CF, 01,
into the engaging sockets formed by facing sheet d for the holding of such card; the leaf, as shown, being adapted for holding five separate cards only one of which is shown in position in Fig. 1. The overlapping pocket in the leaf which receives the indexed corner portion 0 of the card is provided with a window opening d through which its index character (5C) is prominently displayed.
It will be seen that both the cover and leaf portions of my improved folder may be continuously used; ready revision being permitted as to any or all of the swatch and article displays, and of the line or swatch indexes, so that both the line of goods and the particular design or material shown in any exhibited swatch, may at any time be readily designated in ordering. Instead of the single swatch leaf shown, a double or triple leaf arrangement may obviously be employed When desired.
W hat I claim is:
A revisahle sample folder for textile goods, comprising a folding envelope havlng hingedtogether covers the adjacent edges of which are provided With tonguereeeiving pockets staggerdly arranged and one cover of which is provided on its inner face with article-attaching means; and a swatch card leaf made up of a backing sheet, and e facing sheet having swatchc-ard engaging pockets and provided With reversely bendable hinge-tongues reinovahly engaged in said staggerdly-arranged cover pockets.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
