PATENT OFFICE.
IBLOOMFIELD I-I. BROOKS, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
TENT SUPPORT.
Application filed April 26, 1921. Serial No. 464,734.
This invention relates to an improved tent structure, and more particularly to a portable tent in which the use of guy ropes is entirely eliminated.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, compact and convenient tent of the character described and one which may be quickly erected by one person.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
One sheet of drawings accompanies this specification as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
Figure 1 is a vertical cross section through a tent showing the supporting structure.
Fig. 2 is a plan View of the supporting device as shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the tent supporting structure.
Fig. 4 is a plan view, and
Fig. 5 is a top plan and side elevation of a reinforcement member for the corners of the tent.
My invention is peculiarly adapted for use in connection with polygonal tents such as indi' ated at 1 and consists of a main central support 2. having at its upper end a prong 4- adapted to pass through an eyelet in the peak of the tent. A. slide runner 5 is fitted on main standard 2 and has pivoted thereon a plurality of supporting members 6 adapted to extend to the corners of the roof of the tent as illustrated in Fig. 1. The supporting members 6 may be of wood and provided with. end ferrules 13 having a reduced end part 13 adapted to pass through an angular guard member 15 preferably bent at an angle to conform with the contour of the tent at a corner and having a central orifice 16 through which the ferrule 13 passes and against the edges of which it abuts. The inner ends of arms 6 are adapted to be pivoted as by bolts 17 between ears 18 formed on runner member 5. I
In operation the slide runner 5 is lowered on standard 2 and the supporting members 6 have their outer ferrules '13 passed through guard plates 15 and suit-able eyes (not shown) at the corners of the roof of the tent structure 1, the prong 4 of themain standard 2 being at the same time passed through a suitable eyelet in the peak of the tent. The bottom corners of the tent are then staked whereupon slide runner 5 is raised upon standard 2 until theroof and Walls of the tent are properly tautened and tensioned as illustrated in Fig. 1. At this position of side runner 5, a dog 9 carried thereby wi l have come into engagement with the teeth 7 carried by the standard 2 so that the slide runner will be held upon standard 2 at the exact point where the tension upon the tent is correct.
Obviously the structure described herein is applicable to a variety of shapes of tents and modifications in the precise structure of the parts will readily occur to those skilled in the art, within the scope of the present invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim:
1. In a polygonal tent having a cover, a supporting member, and a plurality of tension arms pivotally related to the supporting member a ferrule seated on the end of an arm and having a reduced end part, and an angular guard member adapted to conform with an angle of the tent cover and to be secured thereto, said guard. having an orifice at its bend adapted to receive the reduced end part of the ferrule.
2. In a polygonal tent having a cover, a supporting member, and a plurality of tcnsion arms pivotally related to the supporting member, each of said tension arms having a reduced end part and an angular guard member adapted to conform with an angle of the tent cover and to be secured thereto. said guard having an orifice at its bend adapted to receive the reduced end. part of one of the tension arms.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature.
BLOOMFIELD H. BROOKS.
