KEY HOLDER.
v.Application filed May 15, 1926. Serial No. 109,318.
This invention relates to a device for carrying keys and has special reference to a combined key carrier and identification device.
One important object of the invention is l to provide av neat and simple device to which may be attached keys so arranged that they are secured in fiat relation on either side of the device.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a device of' this character having strapsby means of which the keys carried by the device may beselectively secured to the sides thereof.
A third important object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature carrying a plurality of key holders or hooks swiveled to one end yand shiftable from one side to the other ofthe device, the invention also being provided with key engaging straps for securing the keys in selected positions.
/Vith the above and other objects in view vas will be hereinafter apparent,` the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described; illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specilically claimed.
In' the accompanyingdrawings like characters of reference indicate like'parts in the several views, and:
Figure 1 is a front view of one form of the invention. f
Figure 2 is a plan vview of the blank from which the body of this form is constructed. x y n Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4t is a section on the line 41H41 of Figure 1. g
Figure 5 is a front view of a slightly modified form of the device, the modification'being" in the strap arrangement.
Figure 6 is a section on the line 6-6 ot' Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a View of another form'of the device showing a second modification of the strap arrangement. r
Figure S is a section on the line 8-8 of Figure 7. i n
Figure 9 is a face View of a modification of the device made with a single thickness of material.
Figure 10 is an edge view of the form shown in Figure 9.
Figure 11 is a section of Figure 9.
Figure 12 is a face view of a modification employing metal clips to secure the key holders or hooks to the body.
Figure 13 is an edge view of Figure 12.
Figure 14C is a greatly enlarged view of the clip used in the form shown in F igure 12.
Figure 1 5 is a faceview of a portion of a1 device showing a modified form of metal c ip. v
Figure 16 is ay view similar to Figure 14. but showing the modified clip. y
In the forms shown in Figures 1 to 8 the body of the device is made from an elongated strip of suitable material such as lea-ther or the like such a strip being shown at 20 in Figure 3. This strip is provided with a pair of slots 21 centrally of its length and is doubled through these slots and stitched as at 22 toform a pocket for the reception of a suitable identification strip or card (not shown). This stitching may be made in any form d esired so that the pocket may open either on the side or end. These slots,` when the strip is doubled, receive the Shanks of key hooks or holders 23 which are swiveled to heads 241 held within the end of the pocket, this arrangement permitting the holders to swing to one side or the other of the body. t is to benoted that any desired forms oi hooks or holders may be used and that the heads may also be of any desired form so long` as the hooks may swing from one side to the other of the body and swivel to permit free movement of the keys.
In the form shown in Figures .1 to 4- reg istering slots are provided close to one edge of vthe body and through these slots passes al strap 26 provided at its ends with snap button parts 27 which cooperate with snap button parts 28 carried on oppositesides of the body 20.
In the form shown in Figures 5 and 6 the same strap'and snap button arrangementis used but7 instead of the strap running through on the line `11--11 slots in the body it is doubled around the 'end of each strap 30, the. remaining ends ot thepstraps bein-g lei't attached to the body members passingthrough slotsl, f.
integrally. In this form the strap from one sideioi' thevbody is doubled around the edge of the body adjacent the attached end and secured det achably to `the opposite side of the body by snap buttons 3l. f-l
In the forms shown in Figures 9 to either ot' the sti-ao arrangements may be used but the body construction is dii'erent vfrom that previously described'.
In. Figures 9 to` l1 asingle thickness of material is used -for the body 32, tghisimaterial being doubled at the top onlyso that a tubular pocket 2:33 is provided ioidtlie l1 g 3a`lsojy the hooks or holders-the Shanks oi' these In Figures l2 to lflihe hooks or kholders are secured to thebody bynietaIclips each having a tubular portion 36 provided with a slot 37. Freni the tubular portionnextends a pail-oilopposed jaws. 37 provided with toothed flanges 38 which are pressed into the materiall ot the body, being there held by the stiiiness of the metal. A f Y These clips may be modilied as in Ifiguies l5 and 1G by dispensing Witlitlie Itoothed flanges and providing holes for riyetsdd.
In either of, these forms the identification may be stamped or embossed on the body as shown at 4l in Figure 9 or may be stamped or embossed on separate strip 42 otzinaterial, Whichfinay be metalA or other suitable substance, and suitably secured to the body as indicated by stitching 43. 1 f
It will be obvious that, in any of theiorins .1 here shown one,- or more keys may `bejsecured on one side ot the body `tnider theu'strapgon that sid-e while the other key or lneys`it` any,
may besecured in like manner on theother A t side. Thus `any key or keys may be kept separate 'from the remainder. l-kl'sothe device may be kept'inyones pocketwvithout thekeys falling loose and vproducing yundue i'vear on the pocket.` v l .f
There has ythus been provided asiniple and eilicientdevice o'i the kind described and for 'the pnrposes'peciiied.
It is obvious thatininor ychanges may be made in the i'orinand construction of the: in,H vention Without departing from 'the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to coniine the invention to the enact form herein shown and described, but itis desired to include all such as properly come ivithin the scope claimed ,y
