SOLDIER TOY.
Application filed. June 8,
This invention relates to a toy simulating a marching soldier mounted on a sup.- .port and-having pivoted legs, the toy including means for moving the legs relative to the body to produce the effect of marching.
r hereinafter described relating to the head and hat portions of a toy soldier.
Of the accompanying drawing,
Fig. 1 is aside view of a toy soldier and supporting meanstherefor;
Figs. 2, 3 and '4 are respectively front, side, and top views showing the head and hat portions in which my improvements are embodied; 3
Fig. 5 is a section on line 55 of Fig. 4;
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the blank of flexible sheet material constituting one of the sections of the hat shown by the preceding figures.
' The same reference characters designate the same parts in all the figures wherever they occur.
The body 12, the head '13, and the legs 14 of the toy soldier shown by Fig. 1, may be constructed as shown by my former applications above mentioned, and the body may be fixed to a standard 15 which in turn is fixed to a platform 16 having wheels 17. The legsmay be pivoted to the lower portion of the body, and means actuated by therotation of one pair of wheels may be-prov'ided for oscillating the legs as shown by my' former applications. Ido not show said means in this application, as the present invention does not relate thereto. The head 13 is preferably spherical and fixed to the body 12. The head is provided with a cocked hat composed of sections 19 and 20, adapted to be assembled on the head. The section 19, called the brim section, is of fiexible sheet material, preferably thin leather, and originally of circularform, as
1926. Serial No. 114,483.
shown by Fig. 6. The central portion of this section is superimposed on the top portion of the head 13, the section being forrTned to extend outwardly fromthe head. section 20, called the crownsection, is of rigid material, preferably wood, andha s a convex upper end. The lower end of the crown section is'superimposed on' the central portion of the brim section. A headed fastener 21, preferably a brass nail, is'driven through the crown section and the brim section into the head 13, as shown by Fig. 5, so that the sections are fixed to the head, the central portion of the brim section being clamped between the crown section and the top of thehead. The head of the fastener 21' may be enlarged to ornament the crown section. r v V The marginal portion of the brim section is turn-ed upward, preferablyat three places, against the upper portion of the crown section, and is united to the latter by fasteners This 75 V 22, preferablysmall nails or tacks. operation gives the brim section the appearance of the brim of a three cornered cocked hat. One of the fasteners 22 is preferably provided with an enlarged head 22* simulatinga cockade at oneside of the brim. v
To increase the resemblance of the figure to a continental soldier, I provide a peruke 24 which may be provided with a queue 25.
The peruke may be comprised of cotton batting and a portion of it is interposed between the head 13 and the central portion of the brim section, as shown by Fig. 5. The brim and crown sections therefore protect and confine the top portion of the peruke, which may be cemented to the head.
.Iclaim:
1. A toy soldier comprising a head and a sectional cocked hat including a brim section of sheet material superimposed on the I top portion of the head, a rigid crownseotion'superimposed on the brim section and secured to the head by a headed fastening member extending through the crown and the brim sections into the head, so that the central portion of the brim section is clamped between the head and the crown section, the marginal portion of the brim section being turned upward and portions thereof'being secu red to the crown section, so that the 3. A toy soldier as specified by claim 1, crown section simulates the crown, and the comprising also a peruke, a portion of which 10 brim section the brim of a cocked hat. is interposed between the head and the brim 2. A toy soldier as specified by claim 1, section. the marginal portion of the brim section be- In testimony whereof I have aflixed my ing secured to the crown section by fasteners, signature. one of which has a head simulating a cockade.
