BERGMANHT, or? as:m;Eritrea,. ramsemrmr; Ase-anon we COIIITMBIK 1 smear. EQUIPMENT C'GIVIP'AZNY, cam: TION. or" EENTNSYZLVANIA":
tannseam; samsvwimra; deares oaan HOLDER.
Applfatibn fila ln-ecember' lrz1924s.: Serial inb. 756E005 T lfis' invention relates to cabinet -construca tion, and mor'e particularly to metal:ca'binets' i of the type employed in ofiices for filing purposes.
The object of the invention is to provide novel and advantageous means for supporting an index card on the front of the va- 1 rious drawers of the cabinet or in other posi- 7 of the front of a drawerof a cabinet adapted' for reception of a card supporting frame made in accordance with my invention;
Fig.2 is a perspective showing the frame in a detached position;
' Fig. 3 is a view in perspective showing the rear retaining plate, the plate also bemg shown'in a detached position;
Fig. 4 is a view in perspective of the card frame showing the rear facethereof, and Fig. 5 is a section on the llne 5-5, F1g. 1, .10 showing the frame in place on the drawer.
In practicing my invention, I provide the front of the drawer 1, or other part of the cabinet to which I may desire to attach the index card-supporting frame, with a pair of parallel slots 2, 2. \Vhile' in the present instance I have shown these slots perpendicular, it will be obvious as the device is understood that these slots may be horizontal or I inclined without departure from the essential features of the invention.
The frame proper shown in perspective in Figs. 2 and 4 comprisesa flat open body 3 having in the present'instan'ce rearwardly extending side flanges 4, 4, the back ends of which turn inwardly, as indicated at 5 in Figs. 3 and 5, to form sockets or recesses 6 for reception of the offset flanges 7, 7
ofa retaining plate 8, shown'in Fig. 3. The
upper ends of the recesses 6 as shown in Figs. 2 and 4 are closed by flanges 9, 9, at the upper corners of the frame 3, these flanges being only sufliciently long to close the ends of said recesses or slots. A flange 10 also projects rearwardly from the lower edge of the frame and constitutes a support for-11a .oard or; other? shieetinserted jinto" the frame through the space between the flanges 9- at the 'topa. 'The'ifian'geJIO; as sli own in g- 39stops shortwofitlre inner edges" of th'e side flanges 5, thereby leaving the lower ends of therecesses 6 unobstructed for inv sertion of the offset flanges 7 of the retainmg plate 8.
In assembling the device, the offset flanges 7 are passed through the slots 2, 2, from the inside of the drawer, the amountof offset of the flanges being sufficient to permit them I v with the plate in position to project beyond the outer face of the drawer 1. The upper I ends of the flanges 7 are then entered in the lower open ends of the slots or recesses 6 of the frame and the latter is forced downwardly. until stopped bythe flanges 9 com,- ing in contact with the upper edges of the said flanges 7, the frame thus being securely supported on the front of the, drawer. When thusassembled, a slit 11 is left between the flanges 9 at the top of the frame sufficiently wide to permit insertion of a card or sheet bearing the designation or index character that may be desired, and this card is supported in the frame by the flange It will be noted that the device eliminates necessity for welding or riveting vtheframe to the front of the drawer, and provides for its ready detachment. also affords considerable manufacturing ad- The construction vantages both in formation of the ,parts,' which may be stamped from sheet metal,
and in the simplicity of assembling. 7
Obviously, the slots 2 may be placed in horizontal positions and the frame inserted from the side of the drawer without departure from the invention, although the form' shown is desirable by reason of the relative improbability of accidental dislodgement of the frame. l
I claim: I
1. The combination with a panel having a pair of parallel spaced slots, a plate having offset flanges adapted for insertion through the slots from one side ofthe panel, and a card-holding frame havingrecesses adapted for interlocking reception of said flanges whereby the frame is supported on the other face of said panel. l
' 2. The combination with a panel having a pair of parallel spaced slots, of a retainthe panel, a card-holding frame having a ing element having oflset flanges adapted to project through the slots from one side of recess for interlocking slidable engagement of the flanges, and an element on said frame closing the top of said recess whereby the frame is positively supported by the flanges at the front of said panel. V
3. The combination With a panel provided with a pair of parallel slots, of a retaining element having offset flanges adapted to project through the slots in said panel, and
' a card-holding frame having a recess open at its lower end and closed at the top Whereby'the frame may be interlocked with said flanges and supported thereby at the front of the panel. a
4. The combination with a panel having parallel spaced slots, of a plateadapted to lie against one face of said panel and having offset flanges adapted to project through the slots beyond the other face of said panel;
- a card-holding frame having" recesses for the reception of said flanges, sald recesses being closed at one end and open at the other end so that the frame may be slid over said flanges and be retainedthereby in a position on the said other face of the panel.
