This invention relatesto certain improvements in smallv boxesI for `holdingtoilet ac cessories of that 'class' commonly or popularly known as vvanity boxes. Y
These vanity yboxes `are largely vused for` carrying rouge and powder, either'in compact ory loose form with the accompanying pude, and must be, to-be commercially practicable, of a size small enough to readily slip into la handbag, pocketbook or the like. `In using these boxesy it. isfvery desirable that provision be made for a larger amount of f powder to be contained therein than rouge,
`as `the powderis used in greatervquantities than' the rouge. It is, also, `desirable* in this class of boxes that the rou'geand powder 1 in either compacter loose formv be arranged i f :inthe box so that they may be readily exlposed v:for use; that the box may be readily,
relled with rouge and powder either with whatis known as a refill, that is, aypowder carrier which may be-p'urchased and inserted lin the box, or vwith newpowder or rouge compacts, or with loose powder.
It is the especil object of thepresent invention to -provide one; of these combination powder and .rouge boxes :0r vanity cases, in
`which the box is so shaped as topermit the use of a greater,r quantity ofpowder than of rouge, the powder androuge being heldin the box side by side in thesame plane so f that both maybe exposed for use on lifting the cover ofthe box, suitable means. being provided for separating the powder a nd rouge compartments.
AItis a further object of the invention to providea refill holder for holdingy the pow-' der and rouge, this holder having comparte.
ments of `unequal size so as to provide `for a greater amount of powderthan rouge, this holder being preferably removable from. thel container so that yitinay bereinoved when i ,f its contents have been depleted or if desired for other purposes',` and replaced by anotherf lled holder, so that the box itsel 7is not discarded but may be used repeatedly. A lfurther object of the `invention. is to provide.' afboxor vanityU case ofjthis charbut durable construction.
acter, lwhich shall,y be yattractive in appearance, simple and easy to use, and of cheap lVith `these and -other objects, not specilically referredv to, the` inyention consists in,V certain novel parts, arrangements and`coin` claims hereunto annexed.
Fig. vl.
binations,'which will be described inconnec'- tion with the accompanying drawings,- and pointed out the the novel features thereof Referring now to these drawings which `illustratea preferred embodiment ofthe invention j n Figure'lis av top view o f the boxf with the coverxopen.
. Figure Q :is a sectionalview, thesection bea stop. This boxis closed by a cover havv i ing.y apflanged, edge 4C which telescopically engages theinset flange 3 of the bottom and seats 1 against the shoulder formed byffthe insetti'ngfor4 the flange when. the. box isg,
closed. 4ldesired, aknob catch 6 n iaylbey provided.foizholding the parts in closedv .l l relation. In'th'e best constructions 'a mirror ,1s provided for the user when applying the cosinetics, ai idfas shown this mirror, vmarked 7,iis,carried inthe cover ofthe box,"bein'g held ini position by a rim best shown in In accorda-ncewith'the invention this box is formed so as yto provide a powder compartment anda myrouge compartment of smaller dimensions than the` powder compartment, `so-that morefpowderi than rouge.
can be carried inthebo'x, and these co1npartrnents arearranged so as to lie vinthe same plane, sol that i both the compartments are exposed bythe single' movement of opening the cover of thevbox.
v `While :various configura-tions ofthe box mayfbe-V adapted forfeifectingthis result, in
thebest constructions' `as illustrated, the box will. be generally v triangiilar in shape, the
ronge compartment beingiormed in one of the apicesofgtheftriangle, and the powderl compartment being formed adjacent thereto and .takingV up substantially the remainderA of thel box, this jconstruction providing a `powder v compartment of.' the required 'dimensions to provide powder and Vrouge in such quantities that lootli `will be exhausted'v Sizes in the bottom of the box, and a spring tongue struckout'from a wall of the refill and adapted to take under the hinge to removably hold the rell in the box.
8. A box for holding toilet accessories, comprising bottom and cover members sub'- stantially triangular in shape, a triangular refill holder in the bottom of the box and having separatedl powder and rouge compartments, and Spring means for holding the refill in the box.
9. A box for toilet accessories having a bottom memberV and a cover, a refill holder comprising a plate formed with depressions to provide a powder compartment `and a smaller rouge compartmentn the same horizontal plane, the area of the compartments beino; substantially `that of the holder, a partition above the'top surface of the plate .between the compartments, and
ieans yfor removably holding the refill in the 0X. i v
10. A rell holder for boxes of the class described, comprising a plate having portions of different sizesdepr'essed vto form walled powder and rouge compartments and bottoms therefor, and a spring tongue'carried by the holder orsecuring itl in al box. v. 11. Arefill holder for boxes of the class out rom'one of the compartment walls for securing the refill in a box.
In testimony whereof, I have lhereunto set my hand.
