The clutch members are forced into operative engagement in the construction illustrated herein by a toggle comprising a link 22 which is pivotally connected to a stud 23 upon a boss 2 1 projecting from the sleeve 19 and a co-operating toggle link 25 which is pivotally mounted upon a boss 26 on a collar 27 which is mounted on the end of the rod 20. The toggle links 22 and '25 are pivotally connected by a pin 28. A bifurcated coupling member 29 is pivotally mounted upon the pin 28 and is pivotally connected by a rod 30 to the lower end of the usual shipper 31 which is pivotally mounted on a stud projecting from a shipper bracket which is secured to the loom side 2.
The shipper 31 is in the form of a lever having a handle 34: by means of which it may be manually actuated. A brake lever .35 is fulcrumed upon the stud 32 and is provided with a downwardly extending end 36 having a lateral extension 87 which e2;- tends across the path of the shipper lever so that the shipper lever cannot be moved to starting position without actuating the brake lever to release the brake.
The mechanism heretofore described is of the usual character.
The protector mechanism of the loom may be of any usual character and as illustrated comprises a frog 38 which is slid-ably movable upon the loom side and, is engaged and moved by a dagger 89 upon bang-off. In prior constructions the frog 38 is provided with an arm or finger which, upon actuation of the frog at bang-off, engages the lateral. extension 37 of the brake lever and moves the brake lever and through it the shipper lever from running position to stoppin position. As heretofore stated the shock produced upon bang-off sometimes broke this arm and on other occasions the resistance of the brake lever caused the frog to be lifted.
The present invention comprises means directly connecting the frog to the toggle mechanism or other clutch-actuating means which operates upon bang-off to release the clutch without acting upon the brake lever and shipper lever in the manner above described. thereby eliminating the likelihood of breakage or improper operation of the clutch mechanism.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention illustrated herein the frog 38 is provided with a lateral extension 40 to which an L-shaped arm 11 is secured by a bolt or set screw 42. A rod 43 is slidably mounted in a suitable aperture in the depending end of the arm 1-1 and is provided with an abutment, such as, a washer 44: which is adjust-- ably secured upon the rod by set nuts 4L5.
The opposite end of the rod 43 is in the form of an eye which embraces a pin 46 which is mounted in a bifurcated extension d7 of the pin 28 which connects the toggle links together, the eye of the rod 43 lying between such bifurcations. In order to cushion the jar which is produced by the movement of the frog at bang-off a leather washer or other cushioning member a8 is interposed between the washer 4A and the arm 41.
In the operation of the stop mechanism the frog 38 is moved by the dagger 39 in the usual manner at bang-off. This causes the arm 4L1 to pull upon the rod 43, which is a tension member, and through it to break the toggle from the position shown in Fig. 2. When the toggle is thus broken the spring 21 moves the sleeve 19 longitudinally of the rod 20, thus causing the lever 11, which is pivotally connected to the extension 18 of the sleeve, to rock about its fulcrum, therebv shifting the gear 6 away from the co-operating clutch member 5. Thus it will be obvious that the clutchactuating member or toggle is actuated to release the clutch members directly by the movement of the frog. The movement of the frog, in addition to breaking the toggle link, also acts through the rod 30, which is connected at one end to the pin connecting the toggle links and at its other end to the shipper, to move the shipper toward stopping position.
Another feature of the invention consists in providing a detachable connection between the brake lever and the shipper which will cause the brake lever to be actuated to apply the brake when the shipper is moved to stopping position, but which connection will be automatically released when the shipper reaches stopping position, so that the brake lever can be independently moved to release the brake after the loom has stopped and thereby permit the loom to be turned over by hand.
In the preferred construction herein the means for connecting the shipper lever to the brake lever comprises a dog 49 which is pivotally mounted upon a stud 50 upon the shipper lever and has a hook-shaped end 51 which engages a shouldered projection 52 extending from the brake lever to ard the shipper. The dog 19 is provided with an oppositely extending end or tail 5% which is adapted to engage an abutment projecting from the shipper stand as the shipper is moved to stopping position so that the dog 49 will be rocked out of engagement witl the shouldered projection 52 when the shipper reaches stopping posit-ion, thereby freeing the brake lever so that it can be aclit) tuated to release the brake after the loom has been stopped for thepurpose of permitting the loom to be turned over by hand.
It Will be understood that the particular embodiment of the invention shown herein is of an illustrative character and is not restrictive; that various changes in form, construction and arrangement of. parts may be made within the spirit and scope of the claims,
It will also be understood that the present invention is not confined to the particular clutch-actuating mechanisms which are illustrated herein, but may be applied to other constructions to which it may be adapted.
It will also be understood that the invention may include other automatic means for efl'ecting a stoppage of the loom adapted to act directly upon the clutch-actuating mechanism in the manner aforesaid instead of through the brake and shipper levers as is common in previous constructions Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
1. Stop mechanism for looms having protector mechanism including a movable frog, a driving clutch, a shipper, clutch-actuating means including a toggle connected to said shipper and operable when extended by the movement of said shipper to running position to set said clutch in operative position, a rod pivotally connected to the joint of said toggle and provided with an abutment to be engaged by said frog upon movement of the frog by the dagger of theprotector mechanism and acting upon such movement of the frog to break the toggle and thereby release the clutch, and means for adjusting the posi tion of said abutment.

Stop mechanism for looms having protector mechanism, a driving clutch, a spring tending to release said clutch, a shipper, 2 clutch-actuating means operable thereby when the shipper is moved to running position to'set said clutch in operative position and means connected to said clutch-actuating means operable by said protector mechanism to release said clutch and acting through said clutch-actuating means to cause said shipper to be moved to stopping position, a brake lever and means detachably connecting said shipper to said brake lever operable 11 by the movement of said shipper to stopping position to move said brakelever to brakeapplying position.

Stop mechanism for looms having protector mechanism, a driving clutch, a spring tending to release said clutch, a shipper, clutch-actuating means operable thereby when the shipper is moved to running position to set said clutch in operative position and means connected to said clutchactuating means operable by said protector mechanism to release said clutch and acting through said clutch-actuating means to cause said shipper to be moved to stopping position, a brake lever, means detachably 0011- necting said shipper to said brake lever oper able upon movement of said shipper to stopping position to nrove said brake lever to brake-applying position and means for automatically releasing said lever-connecting means when the shipper reaches stopping position, whereby the brake lever may be actuated to release the brake.
