The present invention pertains to loom stop motions and has more particular reference .to fillingstop motions of the type having a knockoff lever.

The filling fork slide of such stop motions does not return to its normal running position until after the loom has been restarted, thus necessitating some means for releasing the connections to the shipper in order to prevent interference with the operation of the latter. a I
The present invention has for itsprincipal object the provision of a filling stop motion of the type mentioned, wherein the, shipper knock-off lever is comprised of separate sections which are normally rigidly connected together but which are automatically released, to thereby free the shipper-actuating section, at the. end of each knock-oif movement.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated on the accompanying drawings, of

The loom shown on the drawings is of conventional design except as hereinafter described and such loom is accordingly but fragmentarily illustrated. Of the conventional construction there is shown a part of the frame including left hand loom side I and breast beam 2, a part of the reciprocating lay 3 which carries a shuttle box 4 and along which the shuttle 5 is picked, and the loom controls represented by shipper 6. The shipper is moved forwardly to the full line position of Fig. 1 to cause the loom to run, and is moved rearwardly to the dotted line position to effect loom stoppage.
The filling stop motion shown includes a fork grate I mounted on the lay adjacent the mouth of the shuttle box, and a side filling fork 8. The fork is pivotally mounted on a slide 9 which is adapted to slide forwardly and rearwardly in a guideway l0. When the fork detects absence of fillingit' catches onto-ahook l l .carried by the forwardly and rearwardly reciprocating weft hammer, l2. The weft hammer thus positively .The stop motion as thus far described is usual construction now well knownin the art. The connections between, thev filling fork slide and the shipper for operating'the latter from the former are, however, of the present invention. The preferred forms of such connections. will now be described. g 3 -A lug l '3.;projects from one side of the; filling fork slide in position to. engage. a'nose M on an arm 1 5 which may be pivoted to the breast beam at 16. The shipper knock-off lever of the presentinvention is made sectional. That is, it is made up i of, separate sections. In the preferred embodiment one section; has anarm J8 which :isnengaged by a depending lug. l9 on the arm l5, and an arm 20 which projects toward the shipper. This section is pivotedintermediate its ends on a pin 2| in bracket 22 which bracket is fixed to the loom frame. The other section 23 isthe shipper engaging section and j it preferably overla s t eermlfl ofth fi t... ction and is pivoted on the same axis.
The sections of the knock-01f lever are normally rigidly connected together as by means of a plunger slidably mounted on one section and engaging the other section. As shown, a lug 24 projects downwardly from the section 23 to engage the front side of the arm 20 and the plunger 25 is slidably mounted in a guideway in the arm 20, the plunger being urged along the arm by a spring 26 so as to normally engage a shoulder 21 on the section 23. When the plunger is projected into engagement with the shoulder the two sections of the lever are rigidly connected together so that the knock-off lever serves to move the shipper handle in the same manner as the one piece knock-off lever of prior constructions. The connecting plunger is housed between the overlapping parts of the lever sections so as to be unaffected by accumulations of lint on the loom.
Fig. 4 of the drawings shows the stop motion parts in the position which they assume immediateiy upon actuation of the shipper from the filling fork slide.
The slide does not return rearwardly when the loom stops, but remains in its forward position until the loom has been turned over at least one pick. Accordingly, if the sections of the knock-off lever were to remain connected together after the knock-oil? movement, the lever would project into the path of the shipper and. prevent the shipper from being moved to its full on position.
The present invention provides means for disconnecting the sections of the knock-01f lever, to thereby free the shipper engaging section thereof, upon and at the end of each knock-off movement of the lever and slide. To this end, the plunger 25 has a projection 28 on the under side thereof in position to be engaged by thefixed cam 29 during the course of the knock-off movement of the lever. The cam may be formed as an unstanding flange on the bracket 22 and it is so shaped and positioned that it withdraws the plunger 25 from engagement with the shoulder 2! approximately at the end of the knockoff movement.
1 When the sectionsv of the lever are disconnected as above described, the shipper engaging section 23 is freed from control of the slide so that it cannot interfere with the movement of the shipper handle to on position. Such movement will swing the section 23 forwardly to the loom-running position of Figs. 1-3, but will leave the other parts in the loom-stopping position of Fig. 4. Subsequent to the restarting of the 1 loom, the slide 9 will return rearwardly as usual,
the spring. I! will move the arm l and the lever section I8, 20 to loom-running position, and the spring 26 will move the plunger into engagement with the shoulder 21 thus restoring the connections between the lever sections.
The present invention is in the nature of an improvement over the construction disclosed in patent application "of Verne'r Lindsjo, Serial No. 881, filed of even date herewith. I Having fully'disclosed the preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 claim:

In a loom stop motion, loom controls including a shipper, a side fill-ing fork slide, a-shipper knock-off lever 'c'omprised'o'f separate sections one of which engages 's'aid shipper, means engaging the other of said sections for positively imparting knock-ofi movement to said lever upon movement of said slide, means normally rigidly connecting said sections together, and means operative by virtue of knock-01f movement of said lever for disconnecting the sections thereof and thereby freeing said shipper-engaging section from control of said slide.
2. In a loom stop motion, loom controls including a shipper, a side filling fork slide, a shipper knock-off lever comprised of separate sections one of which engages said shipper, means engaging the other of said sections for positively imparting knock-off movement to said lever upon movement of said slide, a plunger mounted on one of said sections and movable thereon to and from a position wherein it rigidly connects said sections together, and means for moving said plunger from said connecting position to thereby free said shipper engaging section at the end of each knock-off movement of said lever.
3. In a filling stop motion for looms, a shipper knock-(iii lever comprised of two separate sections pivoted to move together in effecting loom stoppage, a plunger mounted on one of said sections for sliding movement to and from a position wherein it engages the other of said sections and rigidly connects the sections together, and a fixed cam engaging said plunger and sliding the same in a direction to disconnect said sections at the end of each knock-ctr movement of said lever.
4. In a filling stop motion for looms, a shipper knock-01f lever comprised of two separate sections pivoted on a common axis to move together in eifecting loom stoppage, one of said sections overlapping the other section, means housed between the overlapping portions of said sections for releasably connecting the same together, and a fixed cam operable by virtue of knock-ctr movement of said lever to disconnect said sections at the end of each said knock-off movement.
. 5. In a loom stop motion, loom controls including a shipper, a side filling fork slide, a shipper knock-off lever comprised of separate overlapping sections pivoted on a common axis, one of said sections engaging said shipper, a plunger housed between the overlapping portions of said sections and normally rigidly connecting the same together, means engaging the second of said sections for positively imparting knock-off movement to said lever, and a fixed cam engageable with said plunger for disconnecting said sections at the end of each said knock-off movement.
