The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which willl catch the eye quickly, be easily and plainly discernible night' and day regardless of the weather, strong, durable, substantially lixed on the pavement or street with minimum dama e to pavement, with little likelihood. of beingbroken or out of place when in-v stalled.
The 'use of the automobile has become lso general as to make it necessary to safeguard life of persons in the public streets and by as cheap and economic a manner of handling as possible, owing' to the necessity of control at Vso many intersecting crossings.

The device consists of a semi-spherically shaped body, preferably `of metal, its lower -.portion 1 resting `on the pavement or ground, the eXtreme outer rim being thickened 2 for a distance 3 from the pavement orl ground, for strength. The angle of the periphery of said device for the same rea-V son is the same throughout its entire surface the highest point being shownl at 4.- There is a plurality of holes 14-oppositely and at right angles to the signal portion 5 of the device recessed near the outer edge as shown at 14 which are re-inforced for a short distance upon the inside of said body 16, 17 The body is held in place byflagscrews 15 through apertures 14 into the pavement, or ground, and by a longer lagpreferably oblong'in shape 5, 6, 6, 710, Y

It is desired not to have such surfaceextend over one-fourth of the circumference so as if desired other inclined plane surfaces may be used for the other indicia towards directions from which streets, or highways approach the device, as shown by Fig. 4, and in which event the' direction to .the traliic may be shown by an arrow 18 and points 19.`

The preferred color of the body of the device is red; the preferred color of the inclined plane portion 5 is white, and the preferred color of the indicia 8 is red. When used on brick paving, or when otherwise desired'the device may be filled with cerent l `portions 16, 17 and the reinforced inside -center of the device 22 surrounding the hole 20, and for reinforcing beneath Iand surrounding the .ruby jewel 21 a ribbed rein-` forcing 24 on the inside portion of said inclined plane surface to a point near its lower inner edge.
