MARTIN LUTHER KELLAR AND JAMES MISKEL KELLAR, OF LUZERNE, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARVESTER-WHEELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,966, dated April 13, 1875 application led January 7, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MARTIN LUTHER KELLAR and JAMES MIsKEL KELLAR, both ot' Luzerne, Denton county, Sta-te of Iowa, have invented certain Improvements in Harvester-Wheels, of which the following is a speci tlcation rlhe object of our invention is to provide harvester-wheels which can be tightened when they have shrunk, without causing the pipe or thimble to project beyond the outer ends ot' the hub; also so constructed that sand or dirt is excluded from the bearings, and also having a cavity for receiving and holding the oil in the center of the hub.
Our invention consists in constructing aharvester-wheel in such a manner that the inner ends of the spokes are placed in sockets in the hubs, and the outer ends ofthe spokes in sockets ont into the fellies in the inside near to the outer edge. The inner ends of the hubs are provided with right and left hand threads. A nut, also having right and left hand threads, is placed between the hubs and over the threads of the stems, and, in being,` turned, draws the hubs together, and thus,
evenly and simultaneously, presses the spokes against the fellies.
In order to more fully describe our invention, we refer to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specilication.
Figure I is afront view of a harvester-wheel embodying our invention. Fig. II is a sectional vieW ofthe Same through line .1: x, Fig. I.
A and A are the hubs, with threaded stems b and b and sockets c and c. D and D are the spokes. E is the felly, with sockets f. G is the right and left handed threadednut. J is the cavity or receptacle for the oil, formed in the interior of the nut, between the ends of the stems b and b.
Having thus described our invention, we desire to claim- In combination with the hubs A and A', having stems b and b', nut Gr, spokes D D, and telly E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
