E. ANDERSON ET AL VEGETABLE AND 0AP SLIGING MACHINE Filed Aug. 26. 1925 a flfraezvcr Patented Mar. 1, 1927.
EDWARD ANDERSON AND Ross w. ADAMS, or MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
VEGETABLE AND. SOAP SLICING' MACHINE.
Application filed August 26, 1925. Serial No.- 52,616.
One object of our invention is to provide in a machine of the class described, an improved means for feeding the substance to be sliced to the cutting knives.
Another object is to provide improved means for locking the feeding means to its operating screw.
Another object is to provide improved means for holding the object or substance that is being sliced.
WVith these and incidental objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, the essential elements of which are described with reference to the drawing, which accompanies and forms a part of this specification In the drawing, Figure 1 is an end view of one embodiment of our invention. Fig ure 2 is a plan view of the same. Figure 3 is a side elevation of the same. Figure 4.- is a section taken on the line 4 1, Figure 2. Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary detail of the feeding mechanism, and Figure 6 is a fragmentary view of a modified form of knife.
The frame 1 is adapted to mount on a suitable stand 2 by screws or other suitable means, and carries on the top thereof a trough 3, in which the substance to be sliced is placed. Hinged in the wall 4 at 5 is the angle plate 6, which has a lip 7 depending from the inner edge thereof against which the object to be sliced is pressed by the fingers of one hand, the palm or heel of the hand, pressing against the vertical plate of the angle of the object that is being sliced, may be drawn firmly up against the lip 7 and hence the holding knife 8, which projects beyond the lip 7 is embedded in the substance that is being sliced and prevents the substance from being lifted by pressure from the cutting edges of the knives 9 car ried in the wheel 10 when this wheel is rotated in a clockwise direction by means of the handle 11.
The carrier 12, Figure 2, may be freely moved back and forth to position it up against the rear end of the substance that is being sliced when the cam lever 13 is pushed upwardly as shown in Figure 5.
This carrier 12 has a vertical upper extension 14, thru which the latch 15 passes in slidable relation thereto and also a horizontal extension 16 thru which the latch 15 also passes. The latch extends downwardly thru a longitudinal slot in the center of the trough 8 and encircles the screw 18.
The carrier 12 also has a leg 17 depending therefrom and passes thru the longitudinal slot of the trough 3, which loosely encircles the screw 18.
When the cam lever 13 is thrown over to a horizontal position the latch 15 is lifted so the edge 19 engages with the threads of the screw 18, hence the rotation of the screw 18 will feed the carrier forwardly or backwardly, depending on the direction of rotation.
The wheel 10, carrying the knives 9, is
clamped to the screw 18 by any suitable means, such as squaring the shaft of the screw to register with the square aperture in the center of the wheel and is removable so that the wheel shown in Figure 1 may be replaced by a wheel of the type shown in Figure 6, in which. the cutting edges are waved so as to give a crimping appearance to the slices that are cut off from whatever substance is being sliced.
While we have described our invention and illustrated it in one particular design, we do not wish it understood that we limit ourselves to this construction, as it is evident that the application of the invention may be varied in many ways within the scope of the following claims.
Claims:
1. In a slicing machine, the combination of a trough for receiving a substance to be sliced, an angle plate hinged to said trough and having one leg extending substantially horizontal into said trough thru an aperture in one wall thereof, a downwardly extending lip on the inner. edge of said horizontal plate and a knife edge extending from said horizontal plate inwardly beyond said lip.
2. In a slicing machine, the combination of a support for receiving an article to be sliced, a slicing device adjacent the support, means for feeding the article on the support to the slicing device, and an adjustable member for laterally engaging the article to guide it against vertical movement, as it reaches the cutting device, and a vertical flange member for adjustably guiding the article against transverse movement.
3. In a slicing machine, the combination of a support for receiving an article to be sliced, a slicing device adjacent the support, means for feeding the article on the able means carried on a horizontal pivot for engaging the article to guide it against transverse movement, said guide means having, at one end, a knife edge for engaging the artlole to hold it against vertical move ment.
