Y UNITED vSTATES ALBERT MORTIMER, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. i
MONEY TnAY non BANxnns AND man LIKE.
Application filed November 8, 1924. Serial Noi. 748,725.
My invent-ion relates to improvements in money trays for bankers and the like,.and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein describedY and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a inoney tray which is adapted to hold bills ot various denominations and which, 'has novel means for instantly conveying the bills to a safe place in case the bank -is suddenly robbed, this means being actuated by the closing of al switch of an electrical circuit.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described in which a number of these trays are connected to each other, each having a push button switch and so arranged that all ot them will be operated when any one of the push buttons is closed. The push buttons may be disposed in various places around the room, such as on the desks of the paying and receiving tellers, and other like places.
A 'further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which is extremely simple in construction, and which is thoroughly efficient for the purpose intended.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part ot this application, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section through the device,
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the device,
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail view of al portion of the device, y
Figure t is a diagrammatic view showing a number of the devices, and
Figure 5 is a wiring diagram of one of the circuits employed with the device.
In carrying out my invention I provide a tray 1 which is hinged at 2 to a U-shaped casing 3. The casing 3 has sides fl and a front wall 5. The casing 3 is supported by the floor 6 of the bank and is disposed' directly above an opening 7 in the floor through which a conveyor or chute 8 extends. A funnel-shaped member 9 is disposed at the lower end of the casing 3 and communicates with the chute 8. In Figure 1 I have shown the lower' end of the chute 8 in 'cointion shown in Figure 1, the trays, together with the bills, will be conveyed to the chute 8 and from there to the vault boxes.
Means for holding the .tray in the full line position consists orp two arms 12 which have inwardly extending portions 13 that are received in openings 14 and are disposed beneath the tray 1 so as to support the tray.
The arms 12 are hinged at 15 and then ex" tend inwardly into the box until their ends 16 almost abut each other. Figure 3 shows an enlarged detail of the construction of the hinge 15. It shows how the hinge 15 is connected to the arm 12 by means cfa sleeve 17.
Referring to Figure 5 it will be seen that the arms 12 are adapted' to be moved or swung about the hinges 15 by means ot a lever 18. The lever 18 is pivoted at 19 to the wall 5 (see Figure 1). A magnet 20 is also carried by the wall 5 and is positioned beneath the lever 18 so as to swing the lever when the magnet is energized, thus swinging the arms 12 about the hinges 15. lVhen the, magnet 20 is energized, it will swing the lever 18 in the direction of the arrow shown in Figure 5. This movement will remove theportions 13 from the casing 3, thus allowing the tray 1 to swing into the dottedline position. In Figure 5 I have shown three of the devices connected to each other by means of wires, and switches. The switches21 are disposed on the front wall 5 ot the device, where they may be readily pressed in case of danger. The circuit shows that a current will flow from the battery 22 or other source of current, to all of the magnets 2O when any one of the switches 21 is closed.
kFrom the foregoing description of the various parts ot the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. In installing the devices, the casing 3 is placed in the desired position and then the chute 8 is placed beneath the casing and leads to the vault or other place of safe keeping. If a number of the devices is used, a like number of chutes is employed.
In case of robbery, the person who is not endangered for the time'being may close the switch 2l which is nearest him and thus actuate all of the devices so as to cause the money to fall into the vault boxes l0. It will therefore be seen that the money is instantly conveyed to a place of safe keeping, thus preventing the robbery from taking place.
I claim: l n A device of the Vtype described comprising a casing having relative-ly small openings in the sides thereof, a tray hingedly secured' to said casing for holding bills of various denominations thereon, a plurality of bottomless compartments loosely mounted upon said tray for separating the bills from each other and into their various positions, arms hingedly secured to the sides of said casing and provided with inwardly extending portions adapted to be received in the openings for holding said tray in operative position, means for forcing said arms outwardly permitting the inwardly extending portions to release `said tray, whereby said bottomless compartments will slide free of said tray, the bills falling free of said compartments as soon as the compartments slide free of said tray, and a receptacle for receiving said bills.
ALBERT MORTIMER.
