UNITED STATES AUSTIN WALSH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TELESGOPIC HATBAND.
Application filed September 22, 1928.
This invention relates to novelty amusementand advertising devices, and particularly to devices of this type which may ,be used in the form of a hat having a telescopic band, adapted to receive ornamental design or advertising matter, and having parts which may be moved relative to other parts thereof. It is particularly designed for use at expositions, fairs, etc., or wherever it may be found desirable to use devices of this nature for amusement or advertising purposes.
The object of this invention, therefore, is to provide a novel advertising and amusement device of the character provided.
In the drawing,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention, as applied to a hat, and showing a band thereof, having the parts telescoped.
Fig. 2 is a similar perspective view showing the invention with the telescoped parts of the band projected one over the other.
Fig. 3 is a broken perspective view, showing the inner member of the hat band telescoped within the outer member and also showing the means for moving the inner member relative to the outer member.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, but
showing the inner telescopic member of the hat band partly projected from the outer member thereof.
Fig. 5 is a plan view showing the elements of the hat band developed and the means for moving the one member relative to the other, the securing tabs being omitted on this figure.
This invention comprises a hat having a brim 1, adapted to support an outer telescopic member 2 of the hatband, the member 2 being provided with tabs 3 which may be suitably secured to the brim 1, in order to the member 2 securely to the hat. Slidabiy mounted within the outer member 2 is an inner telescopic member 4 adapted to be set inside the outer member 2 as shown in Fig. 3, but adapted to be raised into the projected position shown in Figs. 2 and 4 by means of the strings 5, which have one end thereof secured to 'eyelet members 6, located at diametric opposed positions at the lower end of the band 4, and passed through eyelets 7 similarly located near the upper end of the outer band 2, and extending below Serial No. 137,114.
the hat member to be operated as desired by the hand of a person wearing the hat.
Referring to Fig. 5, the band member 2 comprises a sheet of material such as cardboard, having at one end thereof, a series of slots 8 adapted to cooperate with a pair of tabs 9, which are designed to engage in a locking manner with any of the slots 8 to form an annular band adapted to circuit the crown of the hat and seat on the frame thereof, and to leave suiiicient room between the inside of said member 2, and said crown to permit the inner telescopic member 4 to slide freely therein. The telescopic member l, is similar in every respect to the member 2, comprising tabs 9 and slots 8 to secure the ends of said band together to form the inner member of the telescopic band.
In operation, the band 2 is seated on the brim 1, secured thereto by the tabs 3, the inner member is seated within the outer member 2, and has the string 5, which is secured to the eyelet 6, at one end passed through the eyelet 7, and extending below the hat proper to be pulled by the hand of the operator whenever it is desired to raise the inner member relative to the outer member of the telescopic band.
As shown in the drawing, Figs. 1 and 2, the outer member, may have any suitable ornamental design printed or stamped thereon, and the inner member may be provided with spaces adapted to receive any kind of ornamental or advertising matter.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with a hat, of a telescopic band, positioned thereon, means to secure the outer member of said telescopic band to the brim of said hat, and means connecting the telescope members of said band to move one member relative to the other.
2. The combination with a hat, a band raving tabs fixed to one end thereof, and secured to the brim of said hat, a second band slidably mounted within the first, and means connecting said bands to slide the second band relative to the first.
A telescopic hat band, comprising two flat members, each of which is provided with means at its opposite ends to lock said ends together and form an annular band, one of said bands being adapted to be seated slidably within the other, said bands having means connecting one to the other to slide one relative to the other.
4.. A telescopic hat band, comprising two sheets of material, each having its ends looked together to form an annular band, one of said bands being slidably arranged inside the other, means connecting said bands to move the inner band out of the outer band at Will and means connected to one edge of the other band to secure the 1 latter to the brim of a hat.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
AUSTIN WALSH.
