BAGKBAND Hook.
Application inea June. 2o, 11925]- seiiai No. 38,504.
rIhis inventionrelates to buckles and clasps particularly designed for use in c onnection with harness and has for its object the provision of a novel device adapted for use in connection ywith the back band, the construction and arrangement being such that there will be an automatic 'clamping action which will hold firmly, the holding action increasing automatically in accordance with the strain exerted upon the backv band.
An important object is the provision of a device of this character which is so con structed and arranged that upon slight baclrward movement of the back band the clamping member will be released so that disengagement of the back band from the device may be very easily effected without being necessary to pry the parts loose as is the case with the ordinary construction.
Another object is the provision `ofa device of this character having` a hook with which a chain or the like may be connected, the hook being so positioned with respect to the back that chaf'mg of the animal will be prevented.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to use and adjust, positive in action, efficient and durable in service, and a general imrovement in the art.v Y With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in,
the details of construction and arrangement of parts to behereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, infwhich z- Figure 1 is perspective view of the device showing it associated with a back band.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section.
Figure 3 is a detail cross-section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, I` have shown from a single piece of sheet metalwhich may be cut and bent to shape so it will, of course, be understood that if desired the deV- vice -could be formed as a casting. The device includes a body portion 1() which is of elongated plate-like formation and which is provided near its ends with slots 11 and 12 and near its central portion with an intermediate slot 13. The back band designated by the letter A is threaded through the vportion beneath the same.

my device as formed.
slot androne portion thereof will therefore lie above'the body member 10 and the other ber 10 is formed .to provide spaced upstanding side flanges 14 formed with inclined slots 15 through whi-ch are engaged the reduced end portions or tongues 16 of an angular clamping plate 17, which has one edge provided with .a plurality of teeth 18 adapted to bite into the back band for maintaining the holding action. The eX- tremities of the tongues 16, that is, outwardly of the side flanges .14 are upset or with retaining lips 19 which will prevent the clamping plate lfrom disengagement from the remainder of the device. The back band, o f course, passes between the toothed edge Vof the clamping plate 17 and the intermedi ate portion of the plate member 10 and it is quite evidenced that when strain is applie to the back band its engagement with the clamping member will tend to slide the latter along the inclined slot 15, this naturally automatically increasing the holding action sp that slippage will be positively prevented.
Near the slot 11, the plate or body member 10 is cut as indicated at 20, 21 and 22 and the material within the confines of these cuts is struck out to define a hook 23 upon which a chain or the like may be engaged. The chain will naturally be disposed loutwardly of and lie upon the back band so that chafing of the animal will be positively From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a simply constructed, inexpensive and very `easily operated device for the purpose specified which will have thev great advantage of increasing its clamping action automatically 1n accord- 'ance with the strain imposed upon it. Furthermore, it is quite evidenced that whenever it 1s desired to disengage the back bandy from vthe device it is merely necessary to ply the former in such a direction as to cause the clamping plate 17 to ride upwardly along the slotl whereupon the teeth 18 will be disengaged from the back band permitting the latter to be withdrawn or loosened as the case may be.
"While I have shown land described the The body meml formed preferredembodiment of the invention, 1t
shouldvbe understood that I reserve the right to malle such changes in the form, construc- 10 clined slots, said A plete vthe scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I
5 claim :h
A heck band device of the character described comprising an elongated plete-'like body member formed at its side edges With spaced upstanding flanges lprovided With inmemher being provided :at intervals with transverse slots adapted to have a hack band threaded therethrough, :vn zmgular clamping rplate disposed Within the said flanges and provided 'With eX- tensions slidable along said slots, and an out struck hook formed `in one end portion of the plate adapted t0 have a chain engaged thereon.
