ARCH AND TILE ESE, FQRI'Y'LENG SAME.
Application filed August 25, 1926. fierial No. 131.4%,
This invention relatcs to arches for furnace Wall openings and the like and to units for the construction of such arches, and my object is -to produce units a'v hcrcby seli supporting arches may be erected without the use of mortar or any other hinder. A further objcctis to produce units whereby it is possible to provide an. opening with a self-supporting arch of such straight or curved form, or to arrange the arch units to provide a Wall opening which slants or slopes in any desired direction. A still further object is to provide units and an arch therefrom of simple strong, durable and inexpensive construction l/Vith these objects in View the invention consists'in certain novel and useful features of, construction and combinations o't parts as hereinafterdescribed and claimed; and in order that it may be fully understood, refen ence is to he had to the accompanying drawing, in which zp V Figure 1 is a trontelevation of a self-supthe sidei'aces, the upperend of each riser portion oi a step at one side of the unit belng adapted to ht snugly into and interlock with the depending portion of the riser portion of an abutting block. The upper and lower faces of each block are horizontal and are provided with grooves a; Which are functionless when the arch is straight or horizontal as indicated by Figure l, but which serve to receive and interlock with riser portions of abutting blocks when arranged to form a true arch, as indicated in Figure 2.
The unit blocks correspond in height and in width from front face to rear face '70 with the unit hlocks'fl, and at one side are inclined and stopped as described by reference to the unit blocks 3', that is to say, are stepped as at 10 to correspond to the tread portions 6 and have riser portions llcor- 7 responding to-ris'er portions 7 of unit blocks 3. The other face of each keyunit block is flat as at 12, and. extends at rightangles to' the top and hottoni faces of such block's,
porting straight or horizontal arch composed which, like the topand bottom faces of unit so blocks 3 are horizontal.
