IMPROVEMENT IN CAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,876, dated April 13, 1875; application filed March 15, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat 1, JOHN G. GOEBEL, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Gaps, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in caps made of silk, or other light material, more especially designed for summer wear, and its object is to provide a light but very elastic metal frame for keeping the shape. The invention consists in a band of crimped brass wire, supported in the top rim of the cap by braces of heavier wire, also crimped, and which are secured at their lower ends by sewing them to the stiffening under the sweat-band.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of a cap titted with my improvement. Figs. 2 and 3 are, respectively, elevations of portions of a brace and the rim.
In the drawing, A represents a hoop, made of light brass wire, crimped, as seen in Fig. 3, inserted in the angle of the body of the cap 0 with its crown. I am aware that hats have before been made with hoops of straight wire around the inside of the top and bottom, said hoops being connected by wire springs, and also that they have been made with a spirally-coiled wire placed on the inside of the hat; and I do hereby disclaim the same as making any part of my invention; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a cap, of a crimped wire ring, A, placed around the inside of the top of said cap, and supported at intervals by the crimped wire braces B, constructed and arranged substantially as described and shown, for the purpose set forth.
