My invention relates to improvements in cribs and has particular referencepto the means for locking the crib side or gate in elevated position. p
`The principal objects of the invention are to provide a crib having a side gate so ar-Y ranged that it-may be readily unlocked by an adult person, while at the same time, it is so securely held in elevated position that lo a child cannot unlock samev and fall out; to provide an improved arrangement which shall be neat and inconspicuous vand-shall 'not interfere in any way with the proper disposition of the bedding; to Lprovide an arrangement of the class described which may be unlocked by av comparatively simple manipulation and which will be practically self-latching whenv the crib gate' is raised into elevated position; to provide a construction which shall be simple and inexpensive to manufacture, and in general to provide animproved and efcient crib construction of thev character referred to.

Referringto the drawings, it will be observed that lthe main frame of the crib in# cludes a pair of corner post-s 10 and 11,'between which posts the crib side or gate 12 may be moved down or up in `order to render the interior of the crib more accessible or to preventv the occupant of the crib Vfrom falling therefrom. Said side gate 12 comprises Y a top rail 13 and a bottom rail 14, said rails being connected by a seriesv of vertical filler bars 15 suitably vsecured at theirV endsto said rails.

Under norinal conditione the guide rods 23 assume a position snch that the pins 2l in the ende ot the bottoni rail 'lfl` locate theinselves slightly outside ofthe string-ht line extending` between the top and bottoni of the guide rode. ln order to latch the gate in elevated position .it merely necessary to elevate the side gate tar enough to enable the locking pine 521 to Snap beyond the pointe ot the hooks 85, and then to release the grate. The pins El will then aeenine the positions shown in Fig. 2 and the gato will be securely latched in elevated poeition.
In order to lovver the gate the saine ia lifted by the rod 13 'tar enough to enable the pin 2l to clear the top ofthe hook 55, whereupong upon a Slight inward preeeure of the knee against the middle oil the bottoni rail7 the rods 23 Will be fixed sutlieiently to shift the pins 2l into the top portionoit the paesageway 33 and beyond the points of the hooks 35. The side irate is then permitted to descend, ot course inaintainingl the slight inward pressure on the rail llfl- `until the pins 2l have dropped below the hoehe 35, The `gate ie then enabled to descend without further manipulation or ellort upon the part of the operator.`
