HAND BAG FOR- LADIES.
Application filed August 31, 1825. Serial No. 53,559.
This invention relates to improvementsin hand bags, or like articles for ladies, and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a hand bag having a number'of pockets or compartments for the convenient carrying of a number by ladies, such as cigarettes, powder puff, mirror, cards, bills and small change, etc., which allows a ready use of these articles when desired, while the entire bag takes up a very limited space and can conveniently be suspended from the arm, etc., of the wearer.
Another object of the invention 1s the provision of a securely closed bill fold se-v v calling cards and a name plate on its front.
It is also one of the objects of the invention to provide a ladys hand bag in form of a sleeve which contains slidably arranged therein within certain limits a number of compartments or pockets for thGTGCGPblOIl of small change, powder puff, a m1rror,etc., adaptedto be ready for use by a simple pull on a band.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention willbecome more fully known, as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my novel handbag constructed according to the present invention, closed.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 with the hand bag open.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the hand bag open and partially extended with open billfold. v I
Fig. 1 is a view similar to Figure 3 with the hand bag extended, showing the mirror, the change pocket, etc.
of articles to be used lower end thereof.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section on line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
-Fig. 6 is alongitudinal section on line 6-6 ofFig. l.
Fig. 7 is a cross-section on line 7-7 of Figured.
, Referring to the drawings, in which like reference numerals-are used to denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, 10 denotes the'body ofthe bag which here has the form of a'sleeve open at both ends and covered by any suitable fancy or ornamental material. i
. In this sleeve or body, a member 11 is arranged, adapted to be displaced in longitudinal direction and prevented from being accidentally entirely withdrawn from the body by means of elastic-bands 12, 13.
The upper part l lof member 11 is adapted to be folded along a line 15' upon'the outer face of sleeve 10 to cover the outer face theerof, and carries at its upper end a snap button 16, adapted to, engage a socket 17 on the outer face of sleeve 10 near the A double handle strap 18 or the like is attached at its lower ends forming loops 19, to rings 20 or the like attached to the upper end of body 10, while loops 21 hold the two parts of the strap 18 together.
The part 14 has attached to its inner face a bill-fold 22, comprising a plurality of pockets 23 adapted to be'closed by a flap 2 L equipped on its inner face with snap button 25 adapted to engage asocket 26 on billfold 22. v The lower part of member 11 is formed into a compartment 27 having a lateral opening 28,the walls of which are somewhat curved, as illustrated in Figure l, and which serves for the reception of cigarettes, etc. i A tassel 29 formed into a fancy knot 30 is attached to the lower end wall of compart-v ment 27 by means of a short cord 31 which acts as a draw or pull cord when it is desired to slide compartment 27 out of the lower end of sleeve 10 to fill or extract cigarettes, etc., with or from said compartments Below the fold line 15 a pocket 32 is formed with the inner'face of member 11, for the reception of a powder puff, or other articles of a lads toilette, and the front wall of said poc et is extended to form'a flap 33 covering a pocket 34 for small change etc. The flap 33 carries on its inner face a socket member 35 adapted to be engaged by a snap button 36 when the flap 33 is lowered to close pocket 34.
Near the lower end of pocket 3% a pull strap 37 having an armored end 38, is attached for pulling compartment 2? into sleeve 10 and pockets 32 and S-l up ardly to give access to the same.
A mirror 39 is attached to the inner face of the wall 4 of com artment 2? adapted to extend over the upper edge of sleeve so that the mirror, when it to be used will be exposed by turning over the edgeot sleeve 10 with its rear (Elif'lfjlllg the outer face of said sleeve as indicated in Figure 6.
The upper end of compartment 2. is closed by the material of member 3:2, as indicated at 41.
The, outer upper face of sleeve 10 is formed *with, a card-case 42 for the reception of a number of calling cards, etc., and window 43 is formed below frame 1-52 for a name plate, etc.
The operation of my device will be entirely clear from the above description; it it is desired to use the lower compartment 27 to extract a cigarette therefrom through its lateral opening 28, a pull on tassel 29 will slide this compartment to a suitable distance out of sleeve 10, while the elastics 12 and 13 will limit this movement. An extraction of bills from the bill-told 22 will conveniently be allowed by opening and folding back flap 14, and opening flap 2d of the bill fold.
It a use of power puff, small change or of the mirror is desired, a pull on band 37 will slide thesame out of the upper end of sleeve 10 to the desired distance also limited by elastics 12 and 13, and the-mirror will by its own weight, fall into the proper position indicated in Figure lVhen closed, the upper part 14; will cover the front face of sleeve 10 and be locked thereto by means 0t snap locl';;16,,17'while the bag can beconveniently suspended from the arm or clothing by means oi straplS.
It is to be understood that the practical en'il'iodin'ient of my invention shown as an example of its preferred form on the drawings, will allow many cluinges in its general arrangel'neut and in the construction ot its minor details, such as tall within the scope ot the appended claims without departure from the spirit of the invention and the principle involved.
ill-living; thus (lGSCl'llH-Kl my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters-Patent, is:
l. Azladys hand bag; comprising a sleeve, a sliding member held on said sleeve for limited. DlOVGll'lGlltS in either direction, the upper part of said member adapted to be folded over said sleeve to form a cover for the same, a means for locking said cover to said sleeve, a' bill iold having a plurality of pockets within the upper part of said member, means for closing said bill told, means for pulling said member out of the lower part of said sleeve, and a means for displacing said member within said sleeve to project above the upper edge of same,
2. in a ladfs hand bag an open. sleeve, a sliding member within said sleeve, having an upper part adapted to fall over said sleeve to form a cover for the same, a means "for limiting the n'iovement of said member, a bill told termed with he upper part of said member, a pocket for the reception of a powder-pull formed with said member below its upper part, a change pocket in front of said iirst named pocket, at closing flap for said change pocket, an armored band for pulling said member out oi the upper part of said sleeve, and a mirror normally engagingsaid change pocket, and secured to said member at one end adapted to fall over the upper edge 01' said sleeve when said member is extracted to display the glass, and a handle for said hand bag.
3. The combination of an open sleeve with a sliding member within the same for forming a ladys hand bag and vanity case, said sliding member forming flap cover for said sleeve, a means for locking both parts together, a means tor limiting the relative movei'nent of said member and sleeve, :1 handle on said sleeve, the lower part of said member constituting a pocket or case for cigarettes, a tassel secured to said case for pulling said case out of the lower end of said sleeve for allowing access to said case, a bill-told, l'iaving a plurality of pockets formed with the upper part of said member on the inner face thereo'i, a closing flap for said bill told, a pocket formed with the inner ice of said member below said bill told, a small change pocket provided on the outer face of said first named pocket, a mirror attached at one end to said member, and armored band for drawing said mirror out of the upper end of said sleeve For allowing access to said poelret and tor allowing said mirror to drop over the upper edge of said sleeve to disi'ila its ss, said sleeve having a card-case vtermed on ils'outer lace. and a n'icans For the reception ol'a name plate below said case.
