Application flea-na '5, I926. 's'eiiaiNo. 106,977.
This invention relates to improvements in motor mountings, particularlyadapted for the attachment of flat type electric motors to sewing machine heads.
Iti's on'eof the objects of'the present invention to provide a motor mounting wherebyan electric motor is yieldingly secured to the head of a sewingmachine'with its pulley wheel in frictional engagement with the sewing machine hand wheel to propel the same. 7 p p I A further object of the invention is to provide aspring actuated motor mounting of the class described arranged so that the" mountin and motor may he flexedaway from the hand wheel to disengage the motor pulley wheel therefrom;
A further object of the invention is to provide a-motormounting of the classdescrib'ed constructedso that-"it may be yieldingly locked in any flexed position.
A further object of the invention is to providea motor mounting of the class described in which the tightness of the engagement between the motor pulley wheel and the hand wheel may be readily manually adjusted.
A further object of the invention is to provide a motor mounting for sewing machine heads which is of very simple con struction, is strong and durable, is inexpensive to manufacture, is easily installed, and well adapted for the purposes described.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists of the improved motor mounting for sewing machine heads, and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in whlch the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Fig. 1 is an end view of a sewing machine head provided with the improved motor mounting and motor carried thereby, part being broken away and shown in section;
Fig. 2 is a side viewof the head showing the mounting and motor; and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view similar to Fig. 1 showing details of construction.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing it will appear that the numeral 5 indicates the head portion of a sewing machine carrying a revoluble hand wheel 6.
Secured to the lower flanged portion 7 of the side of the head is a fiat spring steel bracket 8,]s'haped as showiiin Fig. 2. A
fiat type electric motor 9 is fastenedto the which the shank portion of an adjusting The end portion of the screw 13 extends. V screw 1s threaded and enters an Internally threaded bore 14 formed in the head. Coiled about tlie'shank of the screw is a spring and the same is confined'between thescrew head and the outer surface ofthe'bracketl' The natural tendency f the spring bracket member is'to flex away from sew;
ing machine head and when it is desired" to '(lisenga'ge the motorpulley wheel from the machinehand wheel it is only necessary to unthread the screw 13 a requisite'an'lount and the bracket member will flex outwardly, as shown in Flg. 3. The provision of the vertical slot 12 inthe upper portion of the bracket permits the bracket to move on the screw shank withoutbinding. Also, when the bracket is adjusted so that the motor is in normal engaging position, the coiled spring 15 allows it to yield slightly to com pensate for irregularities in the rotation of the hand wheel.
From. the foregoing description it will be seen that the improvedmotor mounting for sewing machine heads is of very simple and novel construction, and is well adapted for the purposes set forth.
What is claimed as the invention is:
1. The combination with a sewing machine head having a hand wheel, of a motor mounting, comprising a yieldable member attached at an upper point and at a lower point to said head, and a motor carried by said yieldable member and normally maintained thereby in engagement. with said hand wheel. 1
or 2. The combination with a sewing mabracl're't member chine head having a hand wheel, of a motor mounting, comprising a yieldable member rigidly secured at one portion to the head and laterally movably adjustably'secured at another portion to said head,,and a motor carried by said yieldable member and normally maintained thereby in removable en gagement with said hand wheel. 1
3. The combination with a sewing machine head having a hand wheel, of a motor mounting, comprising an elongated spring plate member rigidly secured at one end portion tothe head and laterally movably adjustably secured atthe other end portion to said head, and a motor carried by said spring plate member and normally maintained thereby in ren'iovahle engagement with said hand wheel.
4. The combination with a sewing machine head having a hand wheel, of a motor "iounting, comprising an elongated verticai spring plate member rigidly secured at its lower end portion to the head and laterally 'movably' adjustably secured at its upper end portion to the head, and a motor carried by an intermediate portion of the spring plate member and normally maintained thereby in removable engagement withsaid hand wheel.
5. A mot-or mounting for sewing machine heads, con'iprising a springable motor carrying bracket member attachable to a sewing machine head, and means carried by the bracket member and engageable with the head for adjusting the amount of spring movement of the bracket member with respect to the head.
6. In combination, a sewing machine head revolubly carryinga hand wheel, anelongated fiat spring steel bracket member secured at its lower end portion to the side of said head and extending upwardiy vertically, an electric motor secured to the medial portion of the bracket member, the pulley wheel of the same being adapted for trictional engagement with said hand wheel, the upper portion of the bracket member being formed with a vertical slot, an adjusting screw extending through said slot and entering the head, and a spring coiled about said screw and confined between the bracket member and the head of the screw.
7. The combination with a sewing machine head having a hand wheel, of a motor mounting, comprising a yieldable member rigidiy secured at one portion to said head and yieldingly secured at another portion to said head, and a motor carried by said yieldable member and normally maintained thereby in engagement with said hand wheel.
8. The combination with a sewing machine head having a hand wheel, of a motor mounting, comprising a yieldahle member rigidly secured at its lower end portion to said head and yieldingly secured at its upper end portion to said head, and a motor carried by said yieldable member and normally maintained thereby in engagement with said hand wheel. I
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
