TOY BATTLE.

The object ot the present invention is to provide a rattle tor use by small children and comprising a dolls head having a novel eye construction, whereby the eyes may be moved by tipping the head in different posi* tions, the specific object of the invention l ing to provide an article oit' the said cla which shall be inexpensive to manufacture and wherein the eye pupil may have an oscillating or rotary motion to the extent ot 3600, and the arrangement as such enabling the use of thin Celluloid sheets for the en tire article with the exception ot the eye pupil and its hanging member.

.Vith referencev to the iigures, it will be seen that the device comprises a head portion which may be made of two Celluloid plates or sheets l, 2, sheet l being formed into a tace section and sheet 2 into the rear head sections, the two sheets being joined at 3. dit 4 the head portion is secured to a handle 5 which may be ot any suitable construction.

T he head portion is Yformed of two spaced l1emi-spherical depressions 6 serving as eye sockets, and covering each eye socket is a transparent disk 7 through which may be seen the eye pupil 8.

Each eye pupil 8 may consist of a. bead or ball carryingl a wire 9 which is projected through an opening l0 formed in the socket 6 and then is bent so as generally to conform to the c-urve of the socket. ' I am aware that attempts have heretofore been made to provide forwardly projecting globular transparent eye coverings, forming pockets for eye pupils. The present ar`- rangement is an improvement on such de vices in that the transparent covering 7 is united to the plate l at its marginal area and not at its edges as in such prior constructions, and the formation of socket 6 enables wire 9 to be sharply bent so as to hold the pupil 8 in position and yet freely permit the same to be moved in an arcuate path.

Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows l. A toy rattle comprising a plurality of sheets ot celluloid shaped and connected to iorn'i a head-like structure, spaced substantially spherical depressions Jformed in one et said sheets to provide eye sockets, each depression having an annular marginal shoulder, a transparent disk secured to said shoulder and covering the depression and a ball within the depression, the latter have ing a wire projecting through an opening in said depression, said wire being bent in such manner as to permit a bodily movement of the ball whilst holding it within its predetermined range of movement.

In toy rattles, a face portion of celluloid or the like and having spaced spherical depressions to form eye sockets, an annular shoulder at the margin of each socket, a subsantially flat disk secured to said 1nargin, the disk being transparent, and a ball in each socket, the ball carrying a Wire pro.- jected through an opening in the-socket and the wire being bent in substantially the curvature of the socket so as to permit bodily movement ot the ball within the socket, whilst restraining it against movement outside ot a predetermined range. i
