FLASH mean.
Application filed January 15, 1926. Serial No. 81,402.
This invention relates to improvements in flashlights, and has primarily for-its object toprovide means whereby the lamp socket may be adjusted in various directions with relation to the handle or casing.
Incidental to the foi'egoing,.another object is to provide an attachment for conventional types of flashlights, whereby the lamp socket is rendered adjustable in various directions without material alteration of the light.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the .description p'roceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the appended'claims, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodimentof the herein disclosed invention may bemade as come within the scope of the claims. I
In the accompanying drawing is illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of the present invention constructed according to the best mode so far devised for the practical application'of the principles thereof. Figure 1 is an elevational view of one form of the present invention, wherein the same is applied to a flashlight of conventional' structure.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring now. more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1' designates a. casing or handle, 'which in the conventional. structures of flashlights is adapted to contain the dry cell batteries. In conventional lights a lamp head 2 is employed, which head is threaded'upon the top of the casing 1 and carries a lampas well as a lens 3.
The present invention, which is designed to render the lamp bulb head adjustable'in various directions with relation to the handle or casing'l, comprises a cap 4, which is adapted to replace the lamp head 2 and is threaded-upon the top of the casing 1.
Projecting fi'om the cap 4 is an ear 5 to which is plvotally connected a threaded support forthe lamp head 6 'by means of a pair of lateral ears 7 and a r vet 8 passmg through the ears 7 and the ear 5 of the cap For the purpose of holding the support in adjusted 'pos1tion,-it is proposed to use a pair of spring washers 9 which tend to hold the ears 7 into frictional engagement with the ear 5. While one form has been illustrated and described for holding the support 6 in adjusted position, it will be obvious that various other'means may be employed for accomplishing the same purpose.
For the purpose of receiving the'lamp.
readily attached to the conventional type of flashlight by removing the ordinary lamp head 2 and threading the cap 4 upon the casing. The lamp head 2 is then threaded upon the adjustable support 6, which support is provided with an electrical connection 10 secured to the cap 4 whereby a lamp contained in the head 2 ma be illuminated in any of its adjusted positions.
- The cap 4 is provided with a spring clip 11 which cooperates with the handle or casing 1 to enable the light to be attached to a pocket, or any other desiredobject.
Whilewe have shown the clip 11 as an integral part of the cap 4, it will be appreciated that the same may be carried directly by the casing 1 or attached to the cap 4 by. various means.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a very simple mechanism has been provided which will effectually serve to render the lation to the handle whereby the rays of light may be directed at any desired angle.
While the foregoing has its obvious advan-- conventional lamp head adjustable with re-' same time enable him to adjust the light in any desired direction.
We claim: I 1
1. The combination of a conventional flashlight having a casing and having a. detachable lamp head, an attachmentcomprising a capislippled over and locked to the upper end .of t e said-casing and having a projecting ear, a movable threaded support having a projecting ear pivotallj secured to said first mentioned ear and receiving the lamp head, whereby said attachment may he applied to the conventional flashlight and permit the lamp head to project either axially from said casing or at an angle to the axis of said casing.
2. The combination of a flashlight having a casing provided with an externally threaded portion at its upper end, and a lamp head provided with a threaded portion, an attachment comprisin a cap internally threaded to receive the threaded portion of the casing, said attachment having a projecting spring linger cooperating with the casing to provide a retaining grip therefor and having a projecting ear, a'lnovable threaded support receiving the threaded portion of the lamp head and having an ear pivotally secured to said first mentioned ear, and flexible conductors extending from said movable support to said cap.
in testimony that We claim the foregoing We have hereunto set our hands at VVaukesha, in the county of Waukesha, State of Wisconsin, and Portage, county of G0- lumbia, and State of Wisconsin, respectively.
