.My present invention has to do with in! the drawings, accompanying' and formingY part ofthis specification7 in which Figure 1 is a broken side elevation ofthe trammel constituting the best practical embodiment of my invention of which I am,

Among other elements my novel device comprises a body bar 1, of steel or other appropriate material. The said body 1 is provided upon one of its edges with fine ,teeth 2 and is provided on its face with a graduated scale 8.
In addition to the body bar 1 the trammel .includes a point 4 designed to be adjustably fixed with respect to the bar 1, and a point 5 that is equipped for quick and easy adjustment on the bar 1 in the direction of the length thereof and is also adapted to remain iin the position in which it is placed as hereinafter described.
The point 4 is provided with an enlargement 6 that straddles and is slidable upon Y the body bar 1, Vand in the bight portion of the enlargement 6 is arranged a shoe 7 with upturned ends, the said shoe being designed to be pressed against one edge of the body bar 1 through the medium Vof a' screw 8 threadedthrough thewalll at the to Yor heel end of the enlargement 6. Mani estly by tightening the screw' 8the point 4 may be adjustably fixed to the bar 1, and after the screw 8 is loosened to lessen the frictional Contact between the shoe 7 and the bar .1, the pointer 4 may berreadily adjusted on the bar 1 in the direction of the length thereof. It will alsobe understood that the enlargement 6 snugly receives the bar 1 and therefore the point 4 is held against movement with respeotto the bar l, other than the longitudinal movement alluded'to.
The point 5 is provided at its upper end v with an enlargementv 9 that straddlesfthe body bar 1 from below and is provided in one of its walls withan aperturelO, preferably of Vshape asillustrated. The said enlargement 10 carries a pointer 11 arranged in the vertex of the aperture 10, andv arranged within the enlargement 9 and against. the lower edge of` the body barl is a spring-I shoe 12 which is normally in the state shown in Figure 4, andv hence when interposed between the lower `portion of the enlargement 9 and the body bar 1 `is adapted to exert yielding pressureA against the lower edge of the body'bar 1. The saidresilient shoe 12 is provided at its middle with a pendent `loop lthatis disposed in a pocket 14 in the enlargement 9, as shown Yin Figure 2.
Surmountmg the enlargement 9 and connected thereto through the `medium of Y' screws 15 is a crown block16, and in confronting portions of the enlargement 9and the crown block 16 are bearings 17 for a shaft 18, the said shaft 18 being equipped with a spur gear 19 in mesh with the teeth 2 and having at one end a knurled finger wheel 2O and at its opposite end a threaded portion to receive a binding wheel 21 with a washer or washers` betweenit and the adjacent side of the enlargement 9 andV crown block 16 whereby when the wheel 21 is tightened the point 5 will be adjustably iixed with respect to the body bar 1 while when the wheel 2 1 is loosened, the shaft 18 maybe turned through the hand wheel. 2O for the movement of the point 5 on the bodybar 1 in the direction of the length thereof. v
It will be apparent from the `forego-ing that in addition tov constituting. an efficient and otherwise advantageous trammel, `my novel device may be used to advantageas Va scale and as a'straight edge. Y
