ATTACHMENT non SHAMPOO BOARDS.
Ap'plcationfnleil April 20,1925.. Serial No. 214,417,
This invention relates to an improved' attachment for shampoo boards such as are commonly used `in beauty parlors for shampooing, and more particularly relatesV kto such a device adapted togl JL iittedor detach- Vably connected to one en fof the board to provide a comfortable head rest for the .p.atient, f .y
' Vobject ofthe invention yis vto provide a head rest or cushion for a shampoe board comprising a flexible water-proof .member having means thereon for detachably connecting it to the-shampooboard. j A further and more specific object of the invention 'is to provide such a device having a tubularor hollow bead provided thereon and adapted to be fitted over the edge of the throat 'of the shampoo board, thereby providing a head rest for-.the patient and atl `the same time providing substantially `a water-tight joint between the patients neck andthe board. Y A- furth-er object is to provide ashampoo board' attachment which will require no spe cial fitting for dierent boards butis adapted to be placed onfthe recessededgeof the board and fit the same regardless Vof `any variatiO'Ilgthele may be in the form l'or shape of the recess. 4 g The particular object ofl the invention therefore is to provide an- .improved Waterproof head Vrest, for shampoo boards.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following. description the ac. companying drawings and ,will 'be pointed out in the annexed claims.
In the drawings there has structure'designedto carry .out-the various objects of the invention but itis to be un.de r.Y stood that the invention is not Conned to the exact features shown as various changes may be made within the scope of the, claims V which follow:
In the accompanying drawings 'forming part of this specification,l
, Figure lis a'v Vertical j 1 Sectonalvvew throughga conyentlml @01.5111 0 .Sha-mp9@ board showing vmy ,.inventllly @PPlled thr'ef 'iigiire been disclosed a Figur-e 5 is a detailed perspective view(V showing the preferred vconstruction Aof thev tubular bead forming the head rest of the attachment; and y 'g Figure 6 is a perspective.ViewZ showing one ofthe Clamps for securing the ends of the device to the shampoo board.k Y
In the vselected embodimentof the 'inventionhere shown, for purposes ofdisclosure, there is here illustrated a'common form of shampoo board 7 having the usualdischarge end 8 and the curved throat 9 adapted to receive the neck of the patient; as indicated in Figure l. The board 7 is preferably adjustably mounted uponY a standard 11 by means of an arcuate slot 12 having a bolt 13 kmounted therein upon whicha wing nut 14 is mounted for locking -theboard `in its adjusted position. Upfturned flanges 15 Vare provided on each side of the-board down-y wardly to direct the water tothe discharge end thereof, andthe head end or throat -9 of the board is' likewise provided with. a
to prevent water from vgetting winto the p atients clothing .when `having fher `head sha'rnpooed.V vIt-is therefore desirable that means be provided for usein conjunction withsuch aboard to providea con'ifortable head rest ,for the patient, and that such de vice be so constructed that it mayreadily and quickly be removed from the board for cleaningandotherpurposes. v v
' The novel head rest featured in this invention preferably consists .of a eXible sheet of material or apronjl, such :as rubber, havitself to Vform ahead-18,1 as shownin Fignre L '.I order rto 'provide a bead ,0f Suffv resta-end 'also that .it may be Soft and flea blY t 'add' 'to "the mutiert .of 'the patient marginal tabel?, particularly generelle ing its upper marginal edge 17 folded upon f @1-111 diameter t0 provide a Suitable head Figure 15 rr-@terribly canized to the sheet or apron 16 so that it substantially becomes integral therewith, and the marginal edge 17 is also preferably vulcanized tothe sheet 16; .a short distance beneath the bead asindicated at 21 in Figure y5.V By thus folding` the sheet 16 over the hollow tube 19, which preferablyisLof rubber, the bead 18 Will be of a suitable size to provide a convenient head rest and .also
means for preventing-Water from getting into the patients clothlng, When mounted Y upon the board as shown in Figur-es l, 2
and 3. Also as a result of-this novel construction, the bead 18 Will be very soft and flexible so .as to readily adapt itself to the curvature of theflange 10. In use and for sanitary reasons, a small hand towel' may be placedn over the attachment as is customv ary at present.
y preferably g consists of a The means provided for detachably securing the attachment to t-he shampoo board clamps 22'Which are adapted -tok be fitted over each'end` ofy the bead 18 and also over the upturned flange 16 at the head endA of the board, as shown in Figures 1A and 2. A
1 set screw 23 is provided in each clamp for securing it to the flange 10 to rsecurely hold the attachment or head rest .in positiony upon the board (see Fig.
The central portion" of the device ispref- Y .y erably yielda-bly ,connected to the boardby means of atensionV spring 24 having oneend Y suitably secured'to the marginal edge 17 of l the apron 16 as shownfin Figure 4. A hook 25 isV secured to the opposite end of the `fspringto provide means for detachably Se` curing the` spring to the supporting means n Vas shown in Figure 1. When the attache or shown in this figure, the spring 24 will func-k ment'is mountedupon ashampoo board as tionto yieldably hold Vthe bead 18 against therea'gainstfas indicated by the dotted lines (head rest and at the Sametime will prevent 1 Water fromY escaping from the board around the neck ofv they patient, andv thereby `pre- "vent 'WatenfromA getting into the patients clothing.
' If desiredthe bead 18 may bevconstructed 1 ot' a porous flexible material instead of bev f ing hollow as shown, and' other kmethods may also be employed for securing the attachment to the board: Without parting from the invention. v
l .lt AWi'llbe noted from 'the foregoingv that Y Vmy attachment'does not have to be fitted tothe board on which' itV is used.vi l It is loosefly supported in the clamps 22 and being vof flexible `material jvill readilyl conform to the curvature of the end oftheboard and the tension .device`24iwill serve to draw the at- .fthmentfsnugly 'against the 1 of the pair of suitable universall use, being readily applicable to any style or formi; of board.'` I claim as my invention:
