LIF'IING MECHANISM FOR STAMPERS IN STAMPING IVIILLS.
Application filed August-23.1926. serial No. 130,897, and in Germany Juiy 2s, 1925.
Vl`his invention relates to a mechanism for lifting the stampers of'stamping mills and bronze stan'iping machines and it has for its object to obtain greater efficiency at the same consun'iption of power as in mechanismsof known type and to Simplify the mechanism. A further object of the invention is to reduce the loss of stamping material in the form of dust. y
lith these objects in view lifting disks are arranged above Ythe stampers, which have each a head, ribsvwith spiralv shaped -inner edge being arranged on said lifting disks which ribs grip, When the disks are rotating, under the heads of the stampers lift the same and let them drop again as soon as the ends of the ribs have liberated the heads.
A stamping mill comprising the improved lifting device for the stampers is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. l shows a port-ion ofa stamping mill in side elevation partly in section. For
Vclearness sake only one of each series of l stampers is shown which are Asituated the one behind the other. y Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section through the stamping mill.
The material'to be stamped is in the box l lon which the posts 2, 2 aremounted. In these posts 2 a shaft l is journalled Which is adaptedto be driven by a belt pulley 3. The shaft carries a number of disks 5 spaced at uniform distances. On each side of each disk 5 a rib 6 is arranged the inner edge 7 of each rib 6 extending inthe shape of a spiral beginning on the circumferencev of the disk at l1. At the end l2 each rib Gris cut in radial direction. Under theshaft 4 stampers 8 are arranged which are guided in apertures in the top plate 13 of box l and in apertures of an intermediate plate V9 fixed on the posts 2. Each stamper 8 lhas ahead 10V at its top end, said heads projecting into the plane of the ribs 6. 0n eachside of each disk 5 three stampers 8 are arranged the one at theside of the other.
' If the stampers are in the lowest position `the ends ll of the ribs 6 grip under the heads of the stampers, When the disks 5 are being rotated, and owing tothe spiral shape of the inner edges 7 of the 'ribs 5 the stampers are gradually raised until the thick end 12 hub with a-cam has to.' be provided for each,
stamper. It isevident thatwith disks 5 of greater diameter more than stampers could be lifted by eachdisk. On each side of each fdisk tivo ribs might be arranged so that the number of .strokes would be doubled.
A great advantage of the invention is that the interval between the box l and the intermediate guide plate 9, in Which theflifting devices are generally located, is free so that it 'can be closed by Walls. In this case devices forsucking off the air can be provided Whereby the formation of Ndust is reduced. The improved lifting device is easy to manipulate and it requires less power than the commonly used lifting devices. l
I claim l'. In a stamping mill` a receptacle forthe` v material to be stamped, a shaftl disposedl above said receptacle, `stumpers having a rangev of movement ivhollybelovvthe plane of the shaft, said stampers having headed upper ends, guiding means for ythe stampers disposed between their headedV upper ends and the receptable, said .kstarnpers being arranged in series, and a cam onthe shaft for eac-h two series of stampers, said cam com-` prising a disk provided on its opposite faces with spirally disposed cam ribs,v located Within the plane of its periphery, each rib operating to simultaneously lift a series of stampers.' Y Y '2. In a stamping mill, a receptacle for vthe material to be stampecka shaft arranged above the receptacle, guiding meansbetiveen the receptacle andshaft, stampers movable through said guiding means Vand having headed upper ends, said stampers being arranged in longitudinal and transverse r0Ws,`j and a Vcam on the shaft for each pair'of transverse rows ofstampers, each cam comprising a disk having spirally disposed cam,
ribs upon its opposite faces lying Wholly Within the line of its periphery and pro vidinginternal cam surfaces for simultaneouslyxlftng the stampers of the transverse 5' roWs alternately on each half of its orbit of rotation.
Y 3. Ina stamping mill, a roW of Stamps having` headed ends, and a rotary cam for' engagement With Jche headed ends of the stampers, said cam comprising a diskhaving l0 an internal cam surface to engage they heads of the sta-mpers. Y f
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
