WITNESS: ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 8, 1927.

"Application filed July 29, 1925. Sena-rim.- 463894. I
iThis invention relates to improvements in I containers and has especial reference. to con- V the cover plate.
tainers for holding powder and similar ex- I plosives, an object being to provideineans whereby the container may be filled and sealed so as tosecurely' hold the contents therein, andopened for theeremoval of the contents without the necessity 'of making a hole or opening in the container and thereby possibly create a spark and ignite the con-- tents of said container.
To this end, the invention provides an opening through which the powder or other explosive may be passed and the opening securely sealedby means of a removable cover plate, novel means being provided for detachably holding the cover plate in place and permanently securing the plate holding means to the container. p
.. With the above and other objects in View,
the invention, further includes the follow ing novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended'claiin. In the drawings Figure 1 is a sectional view showing a portion of a container with the coverplate' removed andthe discharge spout extended outward. I v
Figure 2 is a sectional view showing the container opening sealed.
Figure .3 is anelevation showing the discharge spout in the position indicated in Figure 1. l
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of V Figure 5 is a similar view of the discharge spout.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a keg or container of the type capable of use for holding powder. Ordinarily, containers for this purpose are not provided with a discharge opening and when the contents are to be removed an opening must be made and in doing this, danger of causing a spark and igniting the powder is present. This disadvantage is overcome in the presentinvention in which the container is provided with an opening which, after the container has been filled, may be securely closed and thereafter, readily opened without danger of causing a spark- I I I I I In carryingout the invention, .the con} tainerisprovided with an opening 11 and this opening is surrounded by 1 side flanges 12, a; bottom flange-1f3 and a topf'flange 14 which are spaced slightly from the outer surface of the'container. These flanges are formed-bye plate having an opening which is adapted to register with the opening 11 of the container and the material of the container around the edges of the opening 11 is passed through the opening of". the plate and bent over the edges of said plate as indicated at 14 If desired these bent over edges may be soldered to the plate so as to form a more secure retaining means.
Pivoted within the opening 11 as indi- I cated -at-15 is a spout 16 which is normally,"
positioned within the container as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings, the said spout having a lip 17 to engage over the edge of the opening ,and limit inward movement of the spout. The spout is also providedwith I spaced flanges 18 which are positioned with-' wall thereof to limit outward movement of the spout. This spout 16 serves to close the opening 11, butto more securely cover the" opening and to hold the'spout' in closed ii i position there is provided a cover plate 19.
This plate has its side edges relatively in- I olined and these inclined edges are pro vided with inturned flanges 20 which are thelatter is forced downward over the.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is here in reserved to make such changes as properly tallwithm the scope of the appended claim.
Havingdescribed the invention What is V claimed is V In a device as set forth, the combination with a container provided With an opening in its side Wall adjacentthe top, the edge portion of the opening having Wings outwardly bent constituting marginal flanges, of a plate having an opening to register with the opening in the container, the marginal fiangeslaterally overlying the marginal portion of the plate opening, the'side marginal flanges downwardly diverging constituting guides, a spout pivotallymounted in the'first opening to oscillate outwardly and inwardly through the first opening, the inner portion of the spout having side flanges to engage with side parts of thefirst opening to limit the spout in its outward oscillatory movement, the upper portion of the spout having a 11 m engage theupper part of the first opening to limit the spout in its inward oscil latory movement, a slide closure having side overturned guide flanges diverging downwardly to engage the first guide flanges to close the first opening and prevent outward In testimony whereoflafiix my signature.
