ELECTRODE DEVICE FOR ELECTRIC FURNACES.

In electric furnaces-especially those used for the treatment of gas-it may be of importance, that the air or the gas, i the furnace is under a pressure different 1 om that of the atmosphere. 7
Accordin to the resent invention, it is now possib e to quickly change the electrodes in such furnaces by arranging in the furnace a mediatory chamber, in which one 10 or several electrodes 'can be placed. .This chamber can be separated from the furnace compartment while the electrodes are fitted up, and it can be separated from the air while they are being placed in the furnace. It is not necessary to separate the.
whole chamber from. the furnace,as it may be made to contain. smaller chambers or .tubes, each of which can be separated from closed electrode chamber ,and means for transferring electrodes from said closed electrode chamber to the electric furnace.

The combination with an electric furnace, the gas pressure in the interior of which is different from the atmospheric. pressure, of a closed electrode chamber, a means comprising an opening with an airtight cover for introducing separate pre-, viously formed electrodes into the said closed electrode chamber and means for preventing communication between the interior of the electric furnace and the atmosphere-during introduction of electrodes in the electrode chamber.
3. The combination with an electric furanace ofa closed electrode chamber, adapted the furnace. A construction of this kindis shown on the drawing, m whic'h k is the electrode tube of the furnace. A flange f is fastened onto this tube, and onto this again, a chamber a is fastened, which is closed at the bottom by a 85 plate g. Claims:
1. The combination witha'n electric furnace, the gas pressure in the interipr of to take up two or more electrodes, means for introducing electrodes into said electrode chamber, without permitting communication 76 between the electric furnace and the atmosphere and means for transferring electrodes from said closed. electrode chamber to the electric furnace.

The combination with an electric fur 80 nace, the gas pressure in the interior of which is different I from the atmospheric pressure, of the closed electrode chamber attached to the said furnacepan opening to the atmosphere from the said electrode chamber for introducing separate previously formed electrodes therein and an opening permitting connection between said chamber and the electric furnace.

The combination with an electric fur-. nace, the gas pressure in the interior of which is different from the atmospheric pressure, of the closed electrode chamber attached to the said furnace, two or more tubes mounted on the rotatable frame inside said electrode chamber, each tube being adapted to take up ali electrode, said tube being adapted b the rotation of said frame to be transferre from axial alinement with an opening for introducing electrodes into the closed chamber to) alinement with an opening for transferring electrodes from'the chamber to the electric furnace.
6.
