Be it known that we, ERNEST FREDERIK CARL IIAGEDORN and Ham PETER HANSEN, subjects of the King of Denmark, and residents 0t Helsinger, in the Kingdom of Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Apparatus for Blowing Out Soot in Boiler Tubes, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to an apparatus for blowing out soot in .boiler tubes by means of a movable steam-spout for injecting a jet of steam into the mouths of the tubes, the said spout being placed in one of the boiler tubes, and adapted to be shifted into the combustion-chamber behind the tubes, and adjusted to form any suitable angle with its original position, thus being enabled to clean the boiler tubes, and the combustion-chamber itself.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

In one of the central boiler tubes 1 is fixed a bushing 2, carrying a rim 3. In the bushing 2 is movably inserted a tube shaped casing 4 carrying at its rear end, entering the combustion-chamber 5, a cover 6 for closing the boiler tube when the apparatus is in its resting position, its other end being connected with a crank-handle I) for shifting and turning the casing 4 to get it into its active position as shown in the drawing, or to make it retire intothe boiler tube 1, which is itself out of action. In a hollow space 7 of the casing 4 is on a screw-rod 8 a toot-l1- wheel 9 arranged, which by inserting the easing into the boiler tube gets in gear with the rim 3. The screw-rod 8 is connected with a rack 10.

at the inner with a cock-case 12 communicating with the spout 13, the length of which corresponds to the breadth oi the combustion-chamber. The coclccase has on its suriace teeth 14 adapted to be acted upon by the rack 10.
When, the casing 4 is being pushed into the combustion-chamber, the steam-spout 13 is in the position shown in full lines, and the crank-handle is turned, the rack 10 will be.
carried to the right in the drawing, by the movement 01 the screw-rod 8 eli'ectcd by the gearing 3-9, as far as a stopknot 15 will allow, and thereby act upon the teeth 14, thus lifting the stcanrspout slowly into the working position as shown at 13 in Fig. 1. In this manner the spout 13 by degrees is directed towards the mouths of the boiler tubes, moving as it does between its extreme positions during the continued rotation of the casing 4 and simultaneously turning around the longitudinal axis of the casing till it is carried back to its original position, and the casing is drawn within the boiler tube.
In the modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the steam enters in the direction of the arrow and streams through apertures 0 into the steam-tube 11, which ends in a hollow space 16 arranged in the wall of the casing 4, and communicating, through a cock-plug 17 re- Inovably fixed in the casing with the steamspout 13. The spout can move around the cock-plug 17 and is formed so as to be able to spread or gather the steam-jet. The cover 6 is made to unscrew.
In order that the apparatus may be used in boiler tubes so narrow that the bushing 2 cannot easily be applied, the screw-rod 8 is carried out through the handle crank 03 and connected with means for moving it, independent of the turning of the casing. The screw-end of the rod 8 may, as shown in Fig. 6, be carried into a guide 18 turningly connected with the casing 4 by a stufling-box 19 and supplied with a fixed handle 20 for lifting and lowering the steam-spout whilst the casing 4 is turned by the handle (Z, and serves as steam-tube. As shown in Fig. 7, the screw-rod 8 is supplied with a square 21 in a guide to prevent it from turning and it may like the casing consist of two parts held together by screw- threads 22 and 23, allowing the outer part to be easily removed. The guide 18 may be supplied with an arm Cit 24 which by pressing against an arm 25 on the smoke-chamber-door 6 moves the screwrod 8, when the handle (Z is turned. By placing the arm 25 in the position 25 as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 7 only the easing 4: will be turned. In the modification of this detail. as shown in Figs. 8 and 9, the revolving guide 18 is held by a flange 26 and supplied with a tooth-wheel 27 engaging with a smaller one 28 having a crank-handle 29. hen the latter is gripped by the operator, while the casing is turned, the screwrod 8 will be moved and the steam-spout raised or lowered.

Having thus described our invention, we claim:
1. In an apparatus for blowing out soot in boiler tubes, the combination of a tube shaped casing closed at the rear end and adapted to be placed in a boiler tube, a steamspout and a steam-tube placed in the said casing and communicating with the steam supply, a cock-case having teeth and connecting the said steam-spout with the said steam-tube, a handle for turning the said casing, a rack acting upon the teeth oithe said cock-case, a screw-rod connected with the said rack, and a gearing for moving the said screw-rod lengthwise, when said handle is turned, substantially as set forth.
2. In an apparatus for blowing out soot in boiler tubes, the combination of a tube shaped casing adapted to be placed in a boiler tube, a threaded cap at the rear end of the said casing adapted to be unscrewed, a steam-spout, a steam-tube having apertures forming passages for the steam, a cock-case connecting the said steam-spout with the said steam-tube, a cock-plug placed in the said cock-caseand adapted to be removed, a groove arranged in the said casing and communicating with the said cock-plug, a handle for turning the said casing, means forming a hollow space in the said casing, a tootlrwheel placed in the said hollow space, a screw-rod forming an axle for the said tooth-wheel. a guide for the said screwrod, a bushing fixed in the said boiler tube and having a rim engaging with the said tooth-wheel, and a rack connected with the said screw-rod and acting upon the teeth of the said cock-case, when said handle is turned, substantially as set forth.
