to me by Letters Patent dated October 31,`
' latter` being suitably fitted to tlie said wood-- en stem. Y v i 4 A further object of this invention is to combine a specially constructed stem and mouth piece with a corn cob pipe bowl spe cially prepared under the process granted 1922,. No. 1,434,119, thereby producing a product of a more graceful and pleasing appearance.
The foregoing and such other objects as Amay appear from the Vensuing description Vare attained by the construction, arrangement, location and combination ofthe several parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated by the accompanying drawings, and more particularly set forth in the claims appended hereto, it being understood that slight changes in the precise propor-l the wooden stem and corn c inouth pieceremovedf. ,y u y. of thewooden stem is'flattened graduallyin.-
It will be seen that-each of the four sides wardly from itsv outer end'port-ion 6,toward*j .its inner end portion, each flattened portion `inerging into a round or circula-r portion yat 'f .or near that point where the stem enters into i .the body of the corn cob bowl, and that each ofthe flattened sides is ornamented to rep-v resenta corn cob stem, for the said flattened sides maybe otherwise suitably enameled or desirably oiiianiented, each outer corner ofthe flattened portion terminating inalinement with a specially constructed mouth piece 75 preferably formed of suitable transparent'inav terialhaving flattened sides, the inner edges of whichV terminate in alinementrwith the other i I side edges of the stem, each inner edgev of the" l stem member beinggradually'tapered or inclinedioutwardly to the point 8,; as clearly: shown in Fig. 1, and at the inner end of the .said mouth piece is formed a suitable screw-I llO l10, formed ofV any desired material preferably of an ornamental nature which serves to furnish a more finished appearance to the product, although this metal band may be dispensed with if desired.
f VIn the modified'construction of pipe and stem shown in Fig. 5, it will be seen that the bowl 11 is'forinedentirely of corn cob var-A nishedon its outer surface inthe usual manner and connected to said howl is a wooden stem l2 havingl a small openingv formed through its inner end portion leading into an. enlarged opening extending to the outer end of thestem, as shown by dotted lines,
Vsaid enlarged'opening terminating with a smooth interior surface, adapted for the reception of the inner end of a mouth piece 13 l of the push or yslip stemk type. The wooden stemA l2 issuitably ornamented on its outer surface and formed with a square louter end portion, around which end portion is preferably placed a metallic sleeve 11i, each'cors ner ofthe squared portion being beveled n gradually inwardly and merging into a rounder circular portion at its entrance nnele/,113
to the outer surface of the pipe: bow-l as will be readily understood.
It will be readily perceived that by the use It will also be understood that the wooden stem may be so shaped as tok fit a' mouth piece having any number of flat outer surfaces.
Having thus described my invent-ion what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is i y Y A tobacco smoking pipe of the character described, comprising a corn cob bowl h aving a `round opening in one side near the bottom thereof, a wooden stem formed of a single piece having aV round inner end portion fitted in said opening and flattened side portions terminating with a Vsquare outer end, with the eXtreme inner end portion of said stemforming a solidr concaved bottom for the inner portion of the bowl and forming a portion of the inner wall of said bowl.
