Description

FEE-8,192Z D.MQNTALBONO COMBINED CURTAIN AND SHADE HOLISER Filed-April 21, L926 INVENTOR P 'ATEORNE iii Patented Feb. 8, 1927.
it i T y T DOMINICK MONTALBO'NO, OF WINFIELD, NEW YORK.
ooMBntnn CURTAIN Ann-SHA E HOLDER.
Application-filed April 21,
The main object of this invention is to provide a combination curtain and shade holder which mounts the curtain and shade on a single bracket, one on each side the window frame between which a curtain rod isadapted to be secured from which a curtain hangs suspended.
Another object is to provide means on these curtain and shade holders for securing the curtain'rod in place so that the same will not become displaced or disengaged from its desired position.
Still another object is to provide a modified type of curtain and shade holder which is directly applicableto hanging drapes and curtains, as used at the present time, from a single bracket. I
he above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.
7 Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the applica-v tion of the curtain and shade holders to a window frame.
ldigure 2 is a perspective view of one of the preferred types of curtain and shade. holders, showing means thereon for spreading the ends to secure the curtain rod in place.
Figure 3 is a perspective view, showing a modified type of curtain and shade holder in its simplest design.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the modi fied type of curtain and shade holder as used when curtains and drapes are to be used on a window at the same time.
. Referring in detail to the drawing, the numerals 10 and 11 indicate the side boards of a window frame which enclose a slide window 12. On the inside of the window frame within the room, it is customary to cover the window area and decorate the same with curtains and a shade. To suspend these members from the window frame, brackets are required for anchoring the ends of the shade roller and for suspending the curtain rod. The preferred type of bracket comprises an integral strap which has an intermediate flat plate 13 in which holes 1 are formed. These holes are adapted to receive screws by which the entire'bracket is mounted securely on these side boards 10 and 11 of the window frame. An car 15, circular in outline, forms an integral part of each bracket and extends at right angles 1926. Serial No. 163,416.
to the plate 13. ,This ear on one bracket has a slot 16 formed thGIBlII'WlllCh receives the key end of the'shaderoller, while the opposite bracket mounted on the same window has a hole therein receptive of the pivot stud at the opposite'end of the shade A semi-circularly curved hook 17 extends roller.
from the opposite end of the plate 13. This hook is formed into a return bend and its end is bifurcated into tongues 18 and 19 which have inclined faces 20 facing each other. The surfaces of these inclined faces 20 are channelled, as shown by the numeral 21, and;
in the channel, a wedge block 22 is slidably mounted. An extension 23 of the wedge" block projects rearwardly into a longitudinal slot 24, one of whose sides has notches 25 formed therein. This extension provides afiexible arm whose extreme end is provided with a lug 26 which is adapted to register in any of the notches and lock the wedge-block 22 in its desired position. A smallstud 27 projects from the side of the arm 26 and isused when it is desired to defleet said arm to remove the same from any of the notches 25. e v In the modified type of device, the simplest of design is provided in which the late 28 is again used and serves as a base for the entire bracket. This plate in this case has an ear 29 bent at right angles to the plate, but in an opposite direction to that shown in Figure 2. The opposite end of the plate has an angular projecting portion 30 from which a semi-circular hook 31 extends, the end of said book being adapted to receive one end of a curtain rod 39.
Figure 4. illustrates the modified type of bracket which may be used for the hang ing of drapes and curtains on the same brackets. This bracket is identical in design as Figure 3 and the same numerals will be used to indicate corresponding parts, but an additional book 33 off-set from the hook 31, is used for the hanging of the drapes. I
The brackets are secured to the upper portion of the window frame, preferably to the side boards 10 and 11 by screws or other attaching means. The curtain rod 32, usually being'telescopic, is then secured between the ends of the hook members 17 or 31 and the case where drapes are hung, the hook members 33 are used for additional curtain rods. To secure these curtain rods in place so that the same will not become displaced when the curtains or drapes are *being arranged ornamentally, the structure shown in Figure 2 is provided which binds the ends of the curtain rod securely to the ends of the hook members 17. The curtain rod is slipped into place overthe split ends 18 and 19 of the hook portion 17 and the wedge block 22 is pulled rearwardly by be easily displaced This wedge block may be locked in various positions by deflectingv the arm 23 integral with the wedge blocks down Wardly until the lug 26 on the arm registers vin any of the'nctches 25. I
It is to be'noted that certain changesin form and construction may be made Without departing from the spirit and; scope of the invention. 7
I claim 1. A curtain and shade holder comprising a bracket having a base plate, an ear set ofi at right angles, a hookextending-from one end of said base plate, said hook having its end split, means operable in the split portion of said hookfor spreading the split ends to' lock a curtain rod in place together with the hook comprising a Wedge-block slidable between saidsp-lit ends of said hook,
and means for adjusting and locking said,
Wedge block to spread the split ends of said hook. a
2. A curtain and shade holder comprising a bracket having a base plate, an ear set off at right angles, a hook extending from one end of said base plate, said hook having its end split, means operable in the split portion of said hook for spreading the split ends to look a curtain rod in place together with the hook comprising a wedge block slidable between said split ends of said hook, an arm extending from said Wedge block, said hook having a recess receiving said arm, and means on said arm engaging means-in the slot for securing said Wedge block in position.
3. A curtain and shade holder comprising a bracket having a base plate, an ear set off at right angles, a hook extending from one end of said base plate, said hook having its end split, means operable in the split portion of said hook for spreading the split ends to look a curtain'rod in place together with the hook comprising a Wedge block slidable between said split ends of said hook,
an arm extending from said wedge block, said hook having a recess receiving said arm, a lug on said arm, said slot of said hook having notches therein, any of said notches receiving said lug to lock the arm against movement, said arm being flexed to release saidlug out of SillClIlOtCllBS.
In testimony whereofl afiix my signature.
