of end labels 40, Fig. 1, which may be applied at the cloth board factory or at the textile mills or elsewhere, when the fabrics are wound upon the board. These labels identify the manufacture of the fabric and also usually contain quality, yardage or other designation.
End margins of the board may be further finished by paper strips l1 applied over end portions of the cover sheet 31. rlhese surface finishing sheets may in some cases be portions of the labels which are folded over and adhesively secured to edge and side faces of the cover material.
The completed board, as is evident from the preceding description, is very light, strong, rigid, and may be produced at low cost. Its light weight is advantageous not only because the weight of the board adds little to the weight of the comnlete fabric bolt, but because shipping costs from the clot-h board factoryto the textile mill where the boards are utilized is very materially The outer surface of the board is entirely smooth, the broad faces being iiat and the longitudinal edges smoothly rounded so that any injury to the fabric wound upon it `is prevented.
I claim: 1 f
1. A frame for cloth boards or similar articles, composed of wood or analogous material, and consisting of side members having smoothly rounded outer longitudinal edges and having` lgrooves on their inner faces., and end members having smooth, flat, outer faces, and ends overlapping the ends of the side members and rounded to conform to the rounded shape of the longitudinal edges of the side members, the end members alsoA having' on their inner faces, ribs, the ends of which fit closely and are secured in end portions of the grooves of the side members.
2. A' frame for cloth boards and the like, composed of wood or analogous material, and comprising side members having rounded, outer longitudinal edges, and end mem bers having smooth, flat, outer faces adapted for the reception of end labels, said end members having end portions overlapping` the ends of the side members toprevent inward displacement, said end portions being rounded to conform to the longitudinal Veelges of the side members, the side and end members having interiitting tongue and groove formations securing` them together. l
