PATENT OFFICE.
SAVIOUB' msrnon'romo, or NEW YORK, N. a.
LUGGAGE cmmnn.
App11eatlon' filed fi'ebruary 18, 1925. Serial No. 10,144.
This invention relates to luggage carriers, an object being to prov de means whereby a bag,.satch el, suitcase or thellke may be convenientl carried without SUPJBCtlIIg a person to t e weight of the carrier.
Another object of the invention 15 the provision of means for securing wheels or rollers to a carrier of the type mentioned whereby the latter will not interfere with'carrying the suitcase or satchel in the ordinary manner, to ether with means for removably securing a andle to the carrier so that the latter may be readily transportedin a manner to relieve the person carrying the bag.
of the weight of said bag. 7
Another object of the invention is the provision of a sectional extensible handle which may be'removably. attached to the carrier and placed within the same when notinuse.
With the above and otherob ects in view, the invention further includes thefollowingnovel features and details of .construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying. drawings and pointed out in the appended claim. In the drawings Figure 1 is a view illustrating the mven- .tion in use. I
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view partly broken away showing the manner of attaching the handle- I Figure 3 is a fragmentary view partly broken away showing the manner of attachin the wheels.
igure 4 is a fragmentary plan view with parts in. section.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary plan view showing a portion of a suitcase with the combined locking and handle attaching plate.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a suitcase with the invention applied.
Referring to the drawings 1n detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a satchel or ha and 11 a suitcase, theinvention being applled to both the bag and suit case. While carriers of this character are illustrated it is of course obvious that the invention is applicable to carriers of .other'types. I
v In order to support the carrier there is locatedwithin the same along the bottom spaced reinforcing strips 12 while secured to these strips as shown at 13 are outwardly and oppositely extending arms 14, the latter forming axles for wheels or rollers 15. The
wheels or rollers 15 are preferably provided with rubber tires 16.. I
The fastening means 13 comprises bolts which extend through the arms 14 and through the bottom of the carrier into the reinforcing strips 12. Staples or cleats 17 also extend througlfth'e bottom of the carrier and engage the arms 14 and strips 12 so as tohold the arms rigid. The carrier may thus be supported by the wheels 15 for readytransportation. 7
In order to conveniently move the carrier there is provided a detachable handle 18. This handle includes a plurality of curved sections 19 which are provided with threaded extensions and sockets 20 so that the sections may be detachabl y connected. One of these sections is threadedly engaged with the stud 21 which is located within a socket 22 provided in a plate 23. This plate is pivotally secured to the carrier as shown at 24 and its free end has pivotally secured thereto as indicated at 25 a locking finger 26. This finger is provided at one end with a hook-shaped bill 27 which removably engages a staple 28, a finger piece 29 project- 'ing from one endof the finger 26 whereby the latter may be readily manipulated. The plate may be provided with a suitable lock 30 so as to prevent unauthorized opening of the carrier.
The inner section of the handle 1 8 is provided with an annular groove 31 which is adapted to removably receive a'ttaching lugs 32, one of which may be locked in place by means ofa lock 33 so that the handle will be held against unauthorized removal. When the handle is not in use it may be removed and placed within the carrier and the latter may be carried in the usual manner. 7
The invention provides exceedingly convenient means whereby a heavy or other carrier may be easily transported, in addition to means whereby the owner of the carrier may retain a grip on the latter without the necessity of supporting its weight and thus guard against theft. 4
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such enanges as proper- -wheel carried by said arm, a reinforcing l v fall within the scope of the appended member upon the upper face of said sup- 10 claim. ported member, and means extending Having described the invention what is through the supported member and engag- 5 claimed .is: mg the arm and reinforcing member to A wheel mount comprising an arm adaptsecure the arm in posit-ion. ed to extend outwardly from beneath the in testimony whereof I afiix my signature. bottom of a wheel supported member, a SAVIOUR MASTRONTONIO,
