C. A. MADDEN GAME APPARATUS Filed Jan. 22, 1926 IN VEN TOR. ggf/y@ ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 1, 1927.
UNITED STATES CHARLES A. MADDEN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
GAME APPARATUS.
Application led January 22, 1926.
This invention relatesto a new and amusing device in the nat-ure of a game, said device being particularly adapted to test the skill of the player.
The object or the invention is to provide a game of novel construction and arrangement oi parts, hereinafter more fully describ-ed, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which,
Fig. 1 shows a side elevational view of my improved game. y
Fig. 2 shows a top plan View thereof.
Fig. 3 shows a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 shows a similar view taken on the line el-i of Fig 2.
Fig. 5 shows a similar view taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2.
As here embodied, my improved game comprises briefly, a table top 10, preferably circular shaped, rigidly attached, at its cent-er, to the upper extremity of a vertical rod 1l, which is a slidable fit in a vertical tube 12, as at 13, the said vertical tube having a set screw 14 attached at its upper extremity as a means of holding the heretobefore nientioned table top 10 in any desired extended position. The vertical tube 12 is attached, at its lower extremity, to the center of a base 15, preferably circular shaped, and having lower depending members 16, of any suitable shape and design, to support the said base, on the licor, table or any convenient place.
The table top 10 is provided with a circular aperture having a ledge 17, or shoulder to support the pocket 18, by its rim 19, the said pocket being of woven cord, hemp, or any suitable material.
In order to close t-he said aperture, when the pocket 18 is removed, I have provided a disc 20, of suitable diameter, pivotally attached to the upper extremity of the rod 11, as at 21, and having a handle 22 extending beyond the periphery of the table top 10, the said disc 20 being a slidable fit in a suitable shapeda-p-erture 23 located in the table top 10.
A similar pocket 24, somewhat smaller, than the lieretobeiore described pocket 18 is similarly supported in the table top 10.
A third pocket 25 is similarly supported in a slide 26, which is of suitable shape, so as to be slid in an elongated arcuate aperture 27 having radial sides with ledges 28 to support the slide 26. rlhe slide 26 is shaped Serial No. 82,985.
arcuately similar to the aperture, so that the arcuate edges oi' the slide will rest upon the arcuate ledges 28 of the aperture 27. The above mentioned construction being such as will permit the pocket 25 supported from the slide 26 to be moved to any desired position in said elongated aperture 27.
My improved game is played as follows. rIhe players will in turn bounce a rubber ball, designated by the numeral 29, upon the ioor or table, and endeavor to bounce the` said ball into one of the heretobetore mentioned pockets.
It is obvious that by sliding the pocket 25 into diiferent positions, and also by closing the pocket 1S, that considerable skill will be required to accomplish the desired requirements.
While I have above described the preferred form, construction, and arrangement of th-e several elements employed, it will be understood that 'the device is, nevertheless, susceptible of considerable modication therein, and I therefore reserve the privilege of resorting to all such changes as may be plainly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows z- 1. A game comprising a table having` a iixed pocket and an arcuate aperture, and a slide carrying a second pocket tting into said aperture and capable of assuming different positions within said aperture with respect to the ixed pocket.
2. A game comprising a table having a circular opening for supporting a pocket and an arcuate aperture, a slide carrying a second pocket iitting into said aperture and capable of assuming diderent positions within said aperture with respect to the fixed pocket, and means for closing said circular opening upon removal of the pocket therefrom.
3. A game comprising a table having a circular opening for supporting a pocket and an arcuate aperture, a slide carrying a second pocket fitting into said aperture and capable of assuming different positions within said aperture with respect to the iixed pocket, and means for closing said circular opening upon removal ot the pocket therefrom, said means including a disc movable in a slot in the table adjacent the circular opening.
4. A game comprising a table top rigidly attached to a vertical rod, which is a slidable lit in a vertical tube attached to a base, and a means of holding the said table top in any desired extended position, said table top provided with a circular aperture having a ledge to support a pocket by its rim, and a means of closing the said aperture, when the said pocket is removed, comprising a Idisc pivotally attached to the upper extremity of the said rod, and having a handle extending beyond the periphery of the said table top, the said disc being a slidable fit in an aperture located in the said table top.
5. A game comprising a table top rigidly attached to a vertical rod, which is a slid- `able iit in a vertical tube attached to a base, and a means of holding the said table top in any desired extended position, said table top,
provided With a circular aperture having a ledge to support a pocket by its rim, and a means of closing .the said aperture, When the said pocket is removed, comprising a disc pivotally attached to the upper extremity ofthe said rod, and having a handle extending beyond the periphery of the said table top, the said disc being a slidable lit in an aperture located in the said table top, and
a second pocket similarly supported in thesaid table top, and a third pocket similarly supported in the said table top in a slide, a slidable it in an elongated aperture having radial sides with a ledge to support the said slide having sides to engage the said ledge, as a means or' sliding the said third pocket to any desired position in the said elongated aperture.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
CHARLES A. MADDEN.
