` HEN ROOST.
Application led .Tune 10, 1926.
My invention relates to hen roosts, and an object is to provide a device of this character having a louse trap associated therewith. It is well known that lice after feeding on the hens crawl into cracks and other dark places where they rest dormant for several days and lay their eggs. I provide a dark chamber in connection with the roost and also provide passages leading into this chamber so that the lice may crawl into this chamber and be destroyed from time to time.
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof, and the novel features of my inventive idea will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying` drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention,-
Fig. l is an elevational view of the device. Fig. 2 is a view in longitudinal vertical section. Fig. 3 is a view in cross section.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a pole 10 which as will be apparent from the broken out portions in the drawings, may be of any desired length. The underside of the pole contains a longitudinal groove 12 extending from end to end while a strip 14 is adapted to cooperate with this groove. The strip 14 on its upper side is provided with a longitudinal rib 16 adapted to fit part way up intoV the groove 12 so that a chamber is produced between the pole land the strip. The underside of the strip 14 is provided with a number of longitudinal grooves 18 from which at intervals perforations 20 extend up through the strip so as to lead into the chamber formed by the groove l2. The strip 14 may be held in place on the underside of the pole l() in any suitable manner as by spring fasteners 22 formed from wire and having one end extended to oonstitute a vertical arm 24 which is rotatably held by staples 26 driven into the side of Serial No. 114,945.
the pole. The pole 10 may be fastened in the hen house in any suitable manner. As shown, supports 28 formed from sheet metal are provided and these supports have side flanges 30 connected by bottom flanges 32 which form pockets to slidably receive the endsof the pole. The body portion of the supports 28 close the ends of the groove l2 to complete the dark chamber. The upper ends of the supports 28 are bent outwardly to form flanges 34 which are fastened to horizontal bars H secured in any suitable manner in the building B.
The 'operation and advantages of my invention will now be obvious. Every few days the poles constituting the roosts in the hen house are removed from their supports and upon detaching the strips 14, 'the dark chamber is exposed so that the lice and eggs which collect therein may be readily destroyed by hot water. The poles are then replaced so as to be used over and over.
I claim:
l. A hen roost comprising a pole having a longitudinal groove in its lower side, a i
strip covering' said groove to provide a dark chamber, said strip having longitudinal grooves in its lower side. and perforations leading from saidL grooves into said dark chamber, means for detachably holding said signature.
