UNlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. FOSTER, OF FULTON, NEV YQRK.
AMUSEMENT DEVICE.
Application filed. January 28, 1926. SeriarNo. 84,437.
The present invention relates to an amusement device having for its prime object to provide such a device having a moving part operable by the record on the turn table of a phonograph.
Another important object of the invention to provide an amusement device embodythe record on the turn table of the phonograph.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which may be very easily and readily associated with the turn table of the phonograph so that its movable part will be actuated by the record thereon.
A still further very important object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature possessed of an extremely simple and efficient construction, one which. is reliable, inexpensive to manufacture, comparatively strong and durable, attractive in appearance, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
l Vith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a front elevation of the device embodying the features of my invention showing the same in association with the turn table of a phonograph.
Figure 2 is an edge elevation thereof showing portions in section,
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the supports, and
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the supports showing a portion of the front plate mounted therein.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that T designates the ordinary turn table now in common use on phonographs upon which is mounted a record R the center of which, as is usual, passes over the upwardly projecting pinP of the turn table.
My amusement device consists of a front plate 5 which in the present instance is cut to represent a circus tent, a suitable representation being drawn or otherwise placed on the front face thereof. An opening 6 is provided in the front plate 5 and a pin in the form of a bolt 7 pierces a point of the front mg a moving picture which is operated by plate above the opening 6. A rear plate 8 preferably of a circular construction is pierced at its center by the bolt 7 and a nut 9 is placed on the. bolt to hold this rear plate or disc in position. The diameter of this rear plate is sufficiently great so that the periphery or edge thereof will frictionally engage the record as is more clearly shown in Figure 2 so that upon rotation of the record this disk or rear plate will be revolved about the bolt 7. The front plate 5 is supported a little above the record so as not to engage therewith. On the front face of the rear plate 8 which is disposed adjacent the rear face of the front plate 5 there is drawn or painted or otherwise designated thereon pictures which will be visible through the opening 6 as this rear plate is rotated.
To support the device I provide rectangular supporting plates 10 which are adapted to rest on the top of the phonograph which I have indicated by a line ll. There are two of the supporting plates 10 each being provided on its upper longitudinal edge with a vertically extending slit or slot 12 for the reception of the front plate 5. The front plate is provided at the center of its bottom edge with an aperture tab 13 extending at right angles thereto for engagement over the pin P of the turn table T so as to properly locate the amusement device in relation to the record in order that the engagement of the rear plate with the record will'be ofl' center of the latter.
The four plates used in the construction of this device may be used from very cheap material such as cardboard or the like, any material being suitable which is possessed of sufficient stiffness. Therefore because of the simplicity of the construction it will be seen that the device is capable of being manufactured very cheaply and yet will possess suflicient strength and durability to attain its objects. It is apparent from the above that I have devised a novel and useful construction of an amusement device, which embodies the features of advantages enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and while I have in the present instance shown and described a preferred embodiment of it which will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, 'What I claim as new is:
1. An amusement device of the class clescribed including a front plate having an opening therein, a rear plate rotatably carried by the front plate and carrying a succession of representations visible through the opening in the front plate upon rotation of the rear plate, said rear plate extending below he front plate and means for supporting the front plate above a record on a phonograph turn table so that the periphery of the rear plate engages the upper surface of said record to be turned thereby upon rotation thereof.
2. An an'iuseinent device of the class (lescribeti, including a front :plate having an opening therein, a rear plate rotatably carried by the front plate and being of sulficient size so that it projects below the said front plate, said rear plate carrying a succession of representations visible through the opening in the front plate upon rotation of the rear plate, said front plate provided with a right angularly extending apertured ear to be received over the pin projecting from the turn table of a phonograph, and means for supporting the front plate above a record on the phonograph turn table so that the rear plate engages therewith to be turned thereby.
In combination a front plate provided with an opening, a pin extending through the front plate above the opening, a rear plate rotatable on the pin of suficient size so that it projects below the bottom of the front plate and carrying a succession of representations isible through the opening in the front plate upon rotation of the rear plate, said front plate provided With a right angularly extending apertured ear to be received over the pin projecting from the turn table of aphonograph, a pair of supporting plates having slots extending transversely thereof to receive the front plate and sup port it above the turn table so that the rear plate engages the record on the turn table.
e. in an amusement device, a pair of rectangularly shaped supporting plates adapted to he vertically disposed with their hot lOil: longi u'llllltll edge resting on a phonograph and provided with slits extending transversely thereof from their upper longitudinal edg a front plate extending vertically and at right angles to the supporting plates and disposed in the slits thereof, a tab extending from the bottom edge of the front plate at right angles thereto and provided with an aperture to receive the pin extending upwardly from the turn table of the phonograph, a rear plate rotatably mounted on the front plate so that itsedge projects below the bottom edge of the front plate to engage a record on the turn table and thus be rotated thereby, said front plate being provided with an opening and the rear plate carrying a succession of representations visible through the opening in the front plate upon rotation of the rear plate.
In testimony whereof I aftix iny signature.
