Description

ROBERT T. LEAVERTON, OF HOLDEN, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FDR EXHIBITING SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,526, dated March 30,1875 ep lization filed February 9, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT T. LEAVER- TON, of Holden, in the county of Johnston and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Exhibiting Shoes 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a clasp for holding and suspending shoes from boxes for exhibition, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others, skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing which forms a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a side elevation, showing my clasp in use. Figs. 2 and 3 show the clasps, with modifications thereof.
My shoe-exhibiting device is formed of three partsthe clasp proper A and the suspendinghooks B and C-each made of a single piece of wire of suitable thickness. The clasp A is formed with a hook, a, at one end, then bent at b, a coil, d, and bent again at e, to pass back and be caught under the hook at. The suspending-hook B may be single or double. WVhen single, it is bent at one end, forming the pin f, to be passed through the coil d, the main part of the hook passing over the edge of the box D to the inner side thereof. When the hook is double the inner end iscontinned back over the edge of the box again, and, bent downward, is attached to the clasp A at b. The suspending-hook O is constructed in the same manner as the single hookB,except that in place of the pin f it is fastened to the clasp I A at cl.
The clasp A being suspended from the edge of the box by means of the hooks B O, the shoe is passed under the part h of the clasp, and the projecting part of the pin f passed through the eyelets of the shoe. The part h is then pressed down on the shoe and hooked on the hook at.
For side-buttoning shoes the part h of the clasp is provided with the bend i, in which the button is hooked.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The wire clasp A, formed with the hook a, bend b, coil d, bend a, and part h, with or without the bend t, in combination with the hooks B and (J, the former having the pin f, all as and for the purposes herein set forth.
ROBERT T. LEAVERTON.
