The object of myinvention is to provide an electromechanical bar interlock in which the elevator doors are manually operated and closed, said interloclcadapted to controlthe circuit to the controller on the elevator so that the elevator can not be started when the door'is open.
' l\IlOil1C1"0bj01'/O'f my invention is to provide a gravity latch hook, the weight o'it which will operate the circuit closer for controlling the circuit to the controller, whereby a certain period. of time transpires after the door is closed before the elevator can be started.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which can be readily applied to any well known elevator doors andat the same time providii'ig a simple, cheap and elt'ective interlock adapted to accomplish the above mentioned objects and having certain details of structure and combination of parts hereinafter more 'l'ully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved interlock.

Referring now to the drawings, 1 represents a plate supported by the elevator door and provided with three brackets 2, 3 and 4: in which is guided the gravity latch hook 5,
which has adjacent its upper'end a lateral off set portion 6 having the vertical portion 7 provided with a hook 8. Thecombined switch boXa-nd latch box 9 is carried by the bracket 10 sec-ui'ed'to the elevator shaft 11 in any desired manner, and is of the structure shown in Figure 2 of the drawings, so as to allow for the proper space 12 for the door hangers and tracks, which is not shown, "as the "same is well understood by those skilled in t-heart. The casing 9 has in the end wall 13 an opening 14: through which the 'latchhook 8 passes, and when the latch hook is released it drops down in the position shown in full lines in Figure 1 of the draw- 'ings, and hooks over the'end wall 13 and thus the elevator door is held'closed. Leadinginto the switch box arethe two terminals and 18, leading from the controller and are secured to the flexible switch fingers 19 and 20 at 21 and 22; and'said switch fingers 19 and 20 are spaced a considerable distance apart and have their free ends turned outwardly as indicated at 23. The gravity trigger 2-1 is pivoted between the front and rear walls of the switchbox by means of the pivot 25 and'said trigger 2% has an upwardiy extending arm 26 which is bifurcated at its upper end and through which passes the fiber pin 27 upon which mountedthe brass contact roller 28. As shown'in full lines in liigure 1, this roller passes between the switch thurers 19 and20 which completes the circuit so that when the trigger is in the position shown in full lines Figure 1, the elevator circuit is closed and the elevator can be started. Surrounding the fiber pin 27 on the outside of the steel roller 28 are liber washers 29 which insulate the roller 28 from the bifurcated end 26 Of the gravity'trigger so that the circuit can not pass to said trigger. The fingers 19 and 2t) asshownin the drawings are arranged in an arc of a circle struck on the center otthe pivot 25 of the gravity trigger 24C. 2
The gravity trigger 24. on the opposite side of the pivot 25 is provided with the outwardly curved arm 30, which is'engaged by the latch hook 8 when the bar 1 isra-is'ed, rocking said gravity trigger 24 on its pivot 25 and moving it in the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 1. When in this position the circuit is broken and the door can be opened but the elevator can not be started.
The door is then moved in the direction of the arrow, Figure 1,'bringing the latch hook 8 through the opening let for releasing the door. lVhen closing the door it will'be seen that the latch hook 8' enters the'opening 14 wardly until the same engages the portion 31 of the gravity latch 24:.
In order to open the door from the outside of the elevator shaft, I provide the plate 1 with a slot 32, through which a key can be passed from the outside of the shaft and engage the lower end of the gravity latch bar 5 for raising it and releasing it.
The gravity trigger 2a is provided with a rubber bumper or silencer which is adapted to engage the wall of the latch box 9 and prevent any noise caused by the rearward movement of the trigger. The latch hook 5 is also provided with a rubber bumper or silencer 34 which engages the upper end of the snide bracket 2, and prevents the same from making any noise when it is released and travels downwardly.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim is 1. A device of the character described comprising a combined latch and switch box carried by the elevator shaft, and having the terminals from the controller entering the same, a gravity trigger mounted in said box and adapted to close the circuit between the terminals, and a vertically movable gravity latch hook and bar carried by the elevator door and adapted to enter the switch box and close the circuit when moved downwardly by gravity and adapted to open the circuit when moved upwardly preparatory to withdrawing the gravity latch hook from the switch box.
2. A device of the character described comprising a switch and latch box supported by the elevator shaft, spring fingers within said box and connected to the terminals of the elevator controller, a gravity trigger pivoted in said box and having an arm adapted to pass between said switch fingers and closing the circuit, and a gravity latch hook and bar adapted to enter said box and lock with a wall thereof and adapted to move the gravity trigger so that the circuit is closed and said gravity latch hook and bar adapted to move said gravity trigger to break the circuit when the gravity latch is raised.

A device of the character described comprising a switch and latch box carried by the elevator shaft, spring switch fingers mounted therein, and connected to the terminal of the controller, a pivoted latch trigger mounted in the box and having a roller carried by one end and insulated therefrom and adapted to pass between the switch fingers, the said gravity trigger having two arms on the opposite side of the pivot, and a gravity latch hook and bar having a hooked end and adapted to pass through an opening in the box and when lowered engage one of the arms to rock the trigger to bring the roller between the spring switch lingers for completing the circuit, and when the latch hook and bar is raised engaging another arm for rocking the trigger on the pivot and throwing the roller from between the switch fingers.
4:. A device of the character described comprising a combined switch and latch box carried by the elevator shaft, a pivoted trigger for opening and closing the circuit, a rubber silencer carried thereby and adapted to engage the latch box, and a gravity latch hook and bar carried by the elevator door and adapted to enter the same and lock the door thereto and close the circuit by a downward movement thereof, and a rubber silencer carried by the gravity latch hook and bar for silencing the bar when it reaches the dowmvard limit of movement.
5. A device of the character described comprising a combined latch and switch box, and having the terminals from the controller entering the same, a gravity trigger intermediately pivoted in said box, a gravity latch hook and bar for operating the trigger, a contacting member carried by the gravity trigger, and spring contacts ar ranged in an arc of a circle struck on the center of the pivot of the gravity latch and connected to the terminals of the controller, whereby the contact of the trigger is forced between the spring contacting members.
6. A device of the character described comprising a latch and switch box having the terminals from the controller entering the same, a gravity trigger pivoted in the box intermediate its ends, and having one end bifurcated and the opposite end carrying an insulated contacting member, and a gravity latch hook and bar adapted to enter the switch box between the bifurcated end of the trigger, and spring contact-ing members within the box and connected with the terminals of the controller and arranged in an arc of a circle struck from the pivot of the gravity trigger.

A device of the character described comprising a combined latch and switch box carried by the elevator shaft and having the terminals from the controller entering the same, a gravity trigger intermediately pivoted within said box, a gravity latch hook and bar carried by the elevator door and adapted to enter the switch box and rock the gravity trigger on its pivot, and spring contacting members within the switch box and connected to the controller terminals and arranged in an arc of a circle struck on the pivot of the gravity trigger.
